The new land you're settling is at risk of viking invasion. These raiders seek to kidnap and kill your peasants, steal your resources, and burn your town to the ground. Use a powerful castle building system where castles are constructed using blocks which can be placed anywhere. Towers and walls are dynamically created based on how you stack and arrange them. Archer towers and other weapon emplacements have longer range the higher their tower. Try different layouts to best protect your kingdom and express your glory as a king or queen.

Nun, warum also der Daumen runter?\n\n\n- Grafik & Sound\n- Gameplay & Spielspaß\n- Fazit\n- Wertung\n\n\n\n=== GRAFIK & SOUND ===\n\nAn der Grafik liegts definitiv nicht. Ich war überrascht, dass viele Menschen diesen comichaften Grafikstil ablehnen, aber mir ist so ein Grafikstil (oder auch ein Prison-Architect-Grafikstil) lieber als eine hässliche, pseudorealistische 3D-Unity-Umgebung, die man schon hundert Mal bei dubiosen Greenlight-Abzockern gesehen hat. Mit einer 1080 Ti sieht die Umgebung schlicht, aber definitiv schön aus und hat Charme. Weniger schön, aber immer noch okay, finde ich die SPIEL-DES-LEBENS-Figuren. So richtig Wuselfaktor wie bei den SIedlern kommt leider nicht auf. \nAuch das Menü ist auf einem 3440*1440-Monitor etwas zu groß geraten, ich hoffe, dass das noch gepatcht wird.\n\nAuch am Sound liegt es nicht. Die Umgebungsgeräusche stimmen (könnten aber etwas mehr sein), der Soundtrack drängt sich nicht zu sehr auf. Wenn man nah reinzoomt wird die Musik lauter, wenn man rauszoomt leiser.\n\n\n\n=== GAMEPLAY & SPIELSPAẞ === \n\nHier lässt KAC leider ordentlich Federn. Wäre es auf dem iPad veröffentlicht worden, wäre es sicherlich gut geworden und ich hätte vielleicht einen Daumen hoch gegeben. Aber wir sind hier auf dem PC, da ist man schon ein bisschen mehr gewohnt.\n\nAm besten lässt sich dieses Spiel mit Siedler 2 oder Anno vergleichen. Steine abbauen, Wälder abholzen, Felder bestellen… Das Problem ist, dass das über 20 Jahre ältere Siedler 2 oder Anno 1602 schon ausgefeiltere und tiefgründigere Wirtschafts- und Warenkreisläufe hatte als KAC. Hätte man sich ein paar Monate mehr Zeit gelassen und diese ausgebaut, wäre KAC großartig geworden. \n\nZum Beispiel gehen hier in KAC Weizen direkt an den Bäcker, obwohl es auch Mühlen gibt. Die Mühlen sind aber nur dazu da, die Fruchtbarkeit der acht umliegenden Felder zu erhöhen. Es gibt einen Mason, der jedoch nur Risse in Mauern repariert. Die Werkzeuge (Axt, Meißel, Hammer wie in Siedler 2) gehen in KAC nie aus, es gibt keine Schweine- oder Eselfarmen, keine Sägewerke, keine Eisenschmelzen, keine Fischer, keine Brauereien, sondern die Tavernen beziehen direkt Weizen.\nFehlen Arbeitskräfte baut man einfach Häusern, nach einer Minute ist das Problem gelöst. Seuchen lassen sich ganz einfach mit Krankenhäusern bekämpfen (es gibt keine Medizin). Geht die Nahrung zur Neige baut man einige Felder, und nach einer Minute hat man wieder mehr (ein Jahr dauert nur etwa eine Minute). Der Hardmode verändert zwar ein paar Parameter (etwa härtere Winter), aber es bleibt eben oberflächlich.\n\nAuch der Terraingenerator lässt zu wünschen übrig. Es dauert Ewigkeiten, bis man eine halbwegs vernünftige Map gefunden hat, die nicht von (anfangs) unabbaubaren Steinvorkommen übersät ist, oder die nicht aus 90% Wüste oder unzähligen Inseln besteht. Auf Wüstenfeldern lassen sich keine Felder abbauen, und leider tauchen diese unfruchtbaren Felder zu oft mitten in fruchtbaren Ebenen auf, und man kann nicht wirklich was dagegen unternehmen. Wenigstens kann man Wasserfelder überbauen.\n\nEs gibt noch kleinere Mängel, etwa das oben beschriebene übergroße Menü, die unnützen Brunnen (steht zwei Felder neben einem brennenden Haus und trotzdem brennt es nieder) oder schlecht schließbare Fenster. Da muss noch an dem „X“ geölt werden. Sehe ich jetzt aber nicht so wild.\n\nWas mir aber ziemlich übel aufstößt war die fehlende Kommunikation seitens der Entwickler. Patches und Updates wurden veröffentlicht, doch man wusste nie, was sich geändert hat - die Entwickler hielten es nicht nötig, Release Notes zu veröffentlichen oder die Geldgeber auf den Laufenden zu halten (abgesehen von „Beta 3 ist nun veröffentlicht“-Mails alle zwei Monate oder so etc). Sowas geht für ein crowdgefundetes Early-Access-Spiel einfach nicht. SimAirport macht es vor, wie es geht. Man muss ihnen jedoch zu Gute halten, dass die Entwickler ab und zu im Forum aktiv waren.\n\nMir gefällt jedoch das modulare Mauern- und Burgenbau-System. Mauern können sprichwörtlich in den Himmel gebaut werden, und mit Bogenschützen oder Ballisten bestückt werden. Das wird mit der Zeit auch bitter nötig, denn irgendwann fangen Wikinger- und Drachen-Attacken an. \n\n\n\n=== FAZIT ===\n\nWären die Entwickler noch die Extra-Meile gegangen und hätten am Gameplay gefeilt, hätten wir hier einen potentiellen Siedler 2-Nachfolger gehabt. Leider bleibt aber, wie oben beschrieben, alles oberflächlich. Einige mögen hier einwenden „Aber es kostet nur 10 Euro!“ - Sicherlich, deshalb habe ich ja geschrieben, dass das auf einem iPad großartig geworden wäre. Aber auf dem PC habe ich schon nach etwa 4 Stunden alles gesehen, und der Wiederspiel-Faktor ist gering. Es gibt abgesehen von Wikingern oder Drachen keinerlei echte Gegner, keinerlei Herausforderungen. Mich ärgert es etwas, dass die Entwickler dieses Spiel freiwillig „kastriert“ haben, und anders als bei SimAirport sehe ich auch kein Potential mehr, das man ausschöpfen könnte. Vielleicht wird es mit ein bisschen mehr Content noch eine 7/10 und damit einen Daumen hoch, aber im derzeitigen Zustand kann ich das Spiel noch nicht für Hardcore-Aufbauspiel-Fans empfehlen.\n\nWie gesagt, ich würde ein ähnliches Spiel jederzeit wieder funden. Together with the growth of your town the enemy sends bigger amounts of units, but there is basically no variance in them.\n\nIf this is a city builder, the building challenges are missing. There are no new challenges coming with a growing city. The production chains feels like something as the first level of supplies required for towns folk in the Anno series, but without anything coming after that. No new resources, no complex to manage production chains and transportation. The people do not require more expensive and complex to make supplies, you just keep building more. Infrastructure is not a challenge. Resource supply isn't as well. Maybe it's a RTS? But for that the troops variance is tiny and the combat too simple and clunky. There are just too many similar games on the market which implement these parts so much better. No recommendation here. There's also no way to quickly see the number of buildings you have of a specific type.\n\n- Wall height can be co-dependent when doing height checks. That means you can have two ridiculously high walls standing next to each other with no other means of support because each wall piece will satisfy the others height check. You simply build one wall segment up until it can't be built any higher, then build the one next to it, and keep going back and forth until you've built a monolithic 2 piece tower with ballistae on top that can hit every single thing on the entire map.\n\n- The game will occasionally crash to desktop with some random pop-up errors from the game engine.\n\n- There are some odd interactions with the environment. This game mainly consists of two things - making a succesful and optimized city, and defending it against invasions. It's one little map, giving you no sense of actual freedom, and reminds me of Sim City 2013 in that way. When you get the hang of things, there are 2 main themes - \"keep expanding the city and optimize it\", and \"defend yourself against invasions\". Well, the invasions are extremely primitive and lacking. Either a dragon shows up, or vikings come to raid you in increasing number of boats. This then repeats over and over. You've seen one invasion, you've seen them all, they're just coming from different parts of the map, and vikings get more challenging, but they're always the same and quickly become boring and mundane.\n\nSo the other thing is to keep growing the city. I've spend probably 6 hours just killing time, building on everything the little island offered to me, but it wasn't the same as the first few hours, where I've explored most of what the game has to offer. Even the building selection is rather small, there are no advanced options, no statistics and even optimizing your city is just very primitive and dumbed down compared to most of the other games - you can't even do basic things like moving specific resource from one stockpile to another. Later in game, the invasions become a mess to watch, because using armies is just painful, you end up chasing enemies all across your city, and the god damn clouds keep getting in your way. The game also starts having performance issues when you start getting closer to 1000 citizens. Your advisors don't have much to say and they start repeating the same few lines over and over.\n\nBeing casual is not bad, but lacking in content and depth is another. The game needs more variety in every way. It feels like an early access title that just got released, or an early tech demo. There are no objectives, no campaign, no variety in invasions, no joy from new discoveries, anything at all. It's just a tiny sandbox, and compared to games like Banished (when Banished first was released), there is no depth to it's systems.\n\nIt doesn't make the game bad, but it simply needs more depth and content before I can recommend it to anyone else but a person who won't feel sorry that they paid 10 euros for few hours of casual fun. Kennt man sich besser mit dem Spiel aus, schafft man selbiges wahrscheinlich auch in knapp 3 Stunden.\nDa es leider kein Ziel und keine Missionen gibt, und die Inseln relativ klein sind, gibt es dann irgendwann einfach keinen Grund mehr noch weiter zu spielen.\nDabei hat der der Entwickler hier durchaus versucht durch \"Ereignisse\" ein wenig dynamik ins Spiel zu bringen - leider ohne viel Erfolg.\nDie folgenden Dinge können im Spielverlauf passieren:\n1. Gewitter: Kann zu Bränden an Gebäuden führen. Man lernt schon früh, dass die Brunnen keine Zierde sind, sondern überall in der Stadt verteilt stehen sollten. Sind die Brunnen aber erst einmal da, ist alles andere fast egal.\n2. Die Pest: Hin und wieder bekommen ein paar Bewohner die Pest. Hat man ein Krankenhaus, flitzen ein paar Ärzte los und heilen alle betroffenen Augenblicklich. Hat man keines, sterben die Bewohner nach kurzer Zeit.\n3. Ein Drachenangriff: Klingt spektakulär, ist aber langweilig. Der Drache setzt nur Gebäude in Brand und tötet keine Menschen. Hat man überall fleißg Brunnen gebaut, kann man den Drachen quasi ignorieren.\n4. Ein Wikingerangriff: Der heftigste Teil des Spiels. Die Wikinger waren das bisher einzig gefährliche im Spiel, was mir begegnet ist. Und das auch nur aufgrund der Menge der angreifer. Hat man noch keine Stadtmauer errichtet, ziehen sie durch die Strassen und stecken mehrere Gebäude zugleich in Brand - da kommt selbst der Brunnen nicht hinterher.\nAus irgendwelchen Gründen ziehen sie dann aber von allein wieder ab, nachdem sie ein paar Häuse abgefackelt haben. Wer genug freie Arbeiter hat, hat das ganze in wenigen Minuten wieder aufgebaut.\n\nDas ganze wird noch stark vereinfacht, weil die Gegner immer von der selben Seite her angreifen. In meinem Spiel kamen die Wikinger immer aus dem Norden und der Drache immer aus dem südlichen Teil der Karte.\nGegen die Wikinger habe ich dann im Norden eine Mauer errichtet mit abwechselnd Bogentürmen und Ballisten. Eine kleine Söldnereinheit hat das Stadttor gesichert. Von da an waren die Wikinger keine Gefahr mehr. Gegen den Drachen reichen ein paar Bogentürme in der Stadt verteilt völlig aus - wenn man sich überhaupt darum kümmern möchte.\n\nDie mitunter größte \"Herausforderung\" war noch die, beim Bau weiterer Wohnhäuser nicht die Nahrung und deren Verbrauch aus den Augen zu verlieren. The most they can do is throw stones, which is hardly a problem, leaving dragons as the only possible threat. Dragons of course never really being a threat to end your run. That role is supposed to be filled by the vikings which are now irrelevant.\r\n\r\nBeing at war with one person while having others that are friendly, lets you get paid to end the war with seemingly no punishment for starting another right after. They are willing to pay repeatedly, making them feel like overly simple NPCs rather than someone who deserves respect.\r\n\r\nWhile the game does expect there to be walls around tall walls for support, piers underneath buildings over water and gates underneath walls, nothing is stopping you from deleting these restrictions after the thing has already been built. I always end up with 10 block tall towers scattered around the base with arrows for space efficient defense that the game clearly doesn’t want to take place. I also place them on roads using gates, making the defense take no actual space and allowing me to delete the gate after, leaving the towers floating.
