- Engaging Gameplay & Visuals (weight 0.63): Players find the game highly enjoyable, praising its unique fighting mechanics, fun gameplay, and overall entertainment value. The graphics, art style, and animations are consistently highlighted as beautiful and well-crafted, contributing to a satisfying experience.
- Strong Touhou Integration (weight 0.29): The game is celebrated as an excellent addition to the Touhou Project, featuring beloved characters, rich lore, and high-quality music arrangements. It serves as a great entry point for Touhou fans who may not enjoy traditional bullet-hell games.
- Effective Spell Card System (weight 0.06): The spell card system is enjoyable and adds a unique strategic layer to combat, including memorable and classic spell cards like the 'train' attack.

Common complaints:
- Poor Online Multiplayer Experience (weight 0.46): Players report significant difficulty finding opponents, frequent disconnections, high latency, and black screens during online play. The lack of modern Steam multiplayer features like friend invites and a robust matchmaking system, coupled with reliance on outdated IP direct connection and port forwarding, severely hinders the online experience.
- Technical Issues & Bugs (weight 0.31): The game is plagued by various technical problems, including launch failures, crashes, screen scaling issues, and garbled text on certain systems. These issues, combined with poor optimization and a perceived lack of developer support, significantly detract from playability.
- Unconventional Combat System (weight 0.23): Many players dislike the game's 'swimming' or 'bullet-action' combat style, finding it departs too much from traditional fighting games. This leads to a perceived lack of impact, depth, and difficulty in adapting for those accustomed to ground-based fighters.
- Lack of Essential Features (weight 0.22): The game is missing several standard features expected in modern titles, such as an in-game move list, comprehensive tutorials, Steam achievements, trading cards, and robust language support. This makes the game less accessible and less appealing to a broader audience.
- Balance Issues & Missing Content (weight 0.18): Players note significant balance problems, with some characters being overpowered and others underutilized. Additionally, several desired characters are absent, and the story mode is criticized for being short, rushed, and lacking depth, with some boss mechanics feeling incomplete.
- High Price for Quality (weight 0.16): The game's price is considered too high given the numerous bugs, lack of features, and overall quality issues. This sentiment is exacerbated by the perceived lack of developer attention and support.

Gameplay feedback:
- Innovative Tag-Team System (weight 0.38): The game introduces a 'Perfect Possession' or 'Master/Slave' tag-team system, allowing players to switch between two chosen characters. This mechanic significantly expands combo possibilities, tactical depth, and overall gameplay variety, with specific conditions for super moves and defensive escapes.
- Story Mode & Difficulty (weight 0.24): The story mode, while sometimes described as generic, introduces the 'Perfect Possession' incident and offers a decent narrative. It serves as a good introduction to the game's mechanics, with difficulty scaling from easy to challenging, especially for the final boss and highest settings.
- Series Continuity & Lore (weight 0.21): As the 15.5th installment in the Touhou Project, the game continues the lore from previous entries, specifically Touhou Kanjuden and Touhou Shinpiroku. It builds upon the floating combat system established in earlier Touhou fighting games, making it accessible even for players unfamiliar with the broader Touhou series.
- Extensive Character Roster (weight 0.2): The game features a large roster of 19 playable characters, including returning favorites and new additions. Each character boasts unique abilities and a wide array of moves, contributing to diverse playstyles and balanced gameplay.
- Accessible Controls & Gameplay (weight 0.15): The control scheme is designed to be more accessible, similar to Smash Bros, with simplified inputs for special moves. This approach makes it easier for newcomers to perform impressive combos without complex button sequences, while still offering depth for experienced players.
- Defensive & Offensive Options (weight 0.14): Players have various defensive options against the game's projectile-heavy combat, including blocking, dashing, and creating omnidirectional barriers. The spell card system also allows for strategic offensive and defensive plays, with the potential for double spells.

Performance notes:
- Game launch and stability issues (weight 0.08): Players are experiencing significant issues with the game launching, particularly on Windows 7 with Nvidia cards and Windows 10 with AMD graphics, often resulting in crashes or the game process disappearing. Some workarounds, like renaming specific Nvidia DLLs or launching directly via `th155_log.exe`, have been reported.
- Improved game optimization (weight 0.05): The game generally shows good optimization, with players noting improved performance due to its new graphics engine compared to previous titles like Touhou 13.5 and ULiL, where some levels had frame rate issues.
