Info about Дорога Жизни:

Official game description:
The Road of Life
----------------
In the winter of 1942, trucks crossed frozen Lake Ladoga to bring food and other vital supplies to besieged Leningrad. The ice route became known as the Road of Life, and you are one of its drivers. Your job is to get the cargo through safely, but the people you meet along the way will also depend on your choices.
**The Ice Beneath Your Wheels**
-------------------------------
You have to find your own way across the lake. Ice ridges and stretches of open water block the path, and blizzards can cut visibility to a few meters. You will pass wrecked trucks along the route, left by drivers who never reached the shore.
**Breakdowns Are Yours to Fix**
-------------------------------
The game doesn’t tell you what’s wrong with the truck. You read the gauges in the cab to understand its condition. If the engine dies in the middle of the lake, you have to climb out into the cold and fix it yourself. Remember that spare parts are limited.
**Under Attack**
----------------
Enemy aircraft appear overhead, and your first goal is to survive the attack and keep driving. If you can’t evade them, you’ll have to shoot back.
**Your Choices Shape People’s Lives**
-------------------------------------
On the Road of Life, you’ll meet drivers, traffic controllers, mechanics and soldiers. Some of them need your help, and with others you’ll have to find common ground. Your words affect how people treat you, and your actions can change how their stories end.
**Based on Real Accounts**
--------------------------
We worked with archival documents and the memoirs of people who were there. The story episodes are built on these sources, and each character brings together the experiences of several real people.

Common complaints:
- Poor English voice acting (weight 0.72): Many reviewers criticize the English voice acting for poor quality, inconsistent volume, cut-off lines, mismatched microphones, and delivery that sounds like programmers reading scripts.
- Monotonous and limited gameplay (weight 0.62): Gameplay is widely described as monotonous, consisting mainly of driving through snowy emptiness with few meaningful mechanics beyond holding W and pressing occasional buttons.
- Severe lag and poor optimization (weight 0.55): The game lags badly even on strong hardware, often drops below 60 FPS, reaches 15 FPS in heavy scenes, and stutters constantly on high graphics.
- Frequent bugs and crashes (weight 0.55): Bugs are constant and range from falling under the map and missing collisions to floating rocks, incorrect scripted scenes, crashes, and a post-credits loop.
- Graphics settings do not apply (weight 0.51): Players report that graphics presets are few and ineffective: selecting Low still results in High, settings reset after unpausing or starting a new game, and some players must edit files manually.
- Unresponsive truck handling and physics (weight 0.47): Truck handling is widely described as poor and arcade-like with almost nonexistent physics, no slipping, weak braking, and completely uncontrollable behavior on ice.
- Broken mission scripts and triggers (weight 0.46): Scripts misbehave by teleporting the player, playing scenes before prerequisites are met, spawning wrong characters, and repeating dialogue, including the bridge explosion and horse rescue sequences.
- Missing basic features and polish (weight 0.45): The game lacks basic features such as English subtitles, hypothermia, manual gear shifting, and proper repair mechanics, and is described as raw and unfinished.
- Bad facial and character animations (weight 0.36): Facial and mouth animations are stiff, off-sync, excessive, or robotic, and cutscene animations such as hand gestures are described as awkward or cringeworthy.
- Weak story and dialogue writing (weight 0.35): The plot and dialogue are described as incoherent, boring, superficial, and full of filler, with no smooth narrative transitions.
- Mouse sensitivity cannot be configured (weight 0.33): Reviewers complain that mouse sensitivity is inconsistent and cannot be adjusted, with object examination being too slow while other actions are too fast.
- Audio dialogue overlaps and cuts off (weight 0.29): Conversations trigger faster than they play, causing overlapping audio, and many lines are cut off mid-sentence or have missing voice lines and mismatched subtitles.
- Abrupt and unsatisfying ending (weight 0.25): The story ends abruptly without resolving the fate of the family and other characters, and the dream-based finale feels unclear and unsatisfying.
- Game can become unplayable (weight 0.24): Some reviewers report that the settings issue and optimization problems prevent the player from leaving the starting house, forcing restarts or making the game unplayable.
- Unclear QTE and item controls (weight 0.23): QTE cursors accelerate to inhuman speeds, button presses are not always registered, and item rotation controls are confusing with no clear direction indicators.
- Anti-aircraft shooting segments are broken (weight 0.23): Shooting from the anti-aircraft gun is extremely difficult due to lag and poor hit detection, with successful hits doing nothing, and the segments are full of bugs.
- Controls feel sharp and unresponsive (weight 0.22): Reviewers describe controls as sharp with no smoothness, repulsive, and inconvenient in places, with long response loading for simple actions like honking.
- Short game length (weight 0.18): Several reviewers note the game can be completed in 4-5 hours, with some saying it was finished faster than the download.

Gameplay feedback:
- Narrative truck driving gameplay (weight 0.74): The core gameplay involves driving a truck from a first-person perspective across snowy, icy roads while advancing a story through dialogue and scripted events. Driving is the primary activity, supplemented by optional tasks and minigames.
- Narrative over combat focus (weight 0.43): The game is a story-driven experience set during the siege of Leningrad, emphasizing narrative and historical context rather than run-and-gun shooting. It is described as a first-person historical note rather than a full game.
- Vehicle repair mechanic (weight 0.37): Players must repair the truck by opening the hood or body, identifying one of six broken parts, retrieving a replacement, and holding the left mouse button to fix it. This is implemented as a minigame without hints, and parts are scarce.
- Physics-based driving on ice (weight 0.37): The game simulates vehicle and road physics, particularly on slippery ice and snowy terrain. Steering and speed control require anticipation, and the driving feel is described as sharp.
- Cargo delivery missions (weight 0.34): The game includes four cargo delivery missions, structured as trips or runs from point A to point B. Some missions involve rescue objectives, such as helping a man out of a sinking car or rescuing Mikhalych.
- Dialogue and story sequences (weight 0.32): Dialogue sequences occur on foot and during trips, advancing the story and presenting choices about who to help and what to risk. Roadside characters can be talked to or helped via minigames.
- Anti-aircraft shooting minigame (weight 0.29): Several segments feature shooting from an anti-aircraft gun, which serves as a break from driving and adds action variety. These are described as minigames rather than core combat.
- Simple driving controls and tasks (weight 0.27): Driving is controlled only with WASD, with manual gear shifting, and the road is mostly straight with occasional curves. Occasional simple tasks and optional quests break up the driving.
- Scripted events and QTE moments (weight 0.24): The game includes scripted events that require pressing a few buttons before continuing to drive, as well as QTE moments. Air raid events appear as red circles that can be avoided.
- Truck maintenance and monitoring (weight 0.23): Players must monitor instruments, clean the windshield, and manage a fuel system in the Polutorka truck. Actions like turning on wipers or honking require long loading.
- Interacting with environment objects (weight 0.2): Players can interact with a stove, and the environment includes barriers, tents, a tractor, and a field kitchen. Warm huts act as checkpoints that save the game.
- Hidden stamina and inventory (weight 0.17): The game features a hidden stamina system and an inventory with a discard button. Skill checks and finding/placing items are part of the gameplay.
- Challenging difficulty (weight 0.08): The game is described as challenging, likely due to the driving conditions and repair mechanics.
- Road movie style (weight 0.07): The game is presented in a road movie style, with the narrative unfolding along the journey.

- Actions not bound to F (weight 0.06): Some actions are currently not bound to the F key, indicating a control issue.

Performance notes:
- Severe performance and lag issues (weight 0.48): Many players report severe lag, low FPS, and stuttering even on capable hardware. Performance often drops to 20-30 FPS or lower, making the game barely playable.
- Poor optimization and high demands (weight 0.35): The game is described as severely unoptimized, with strange performance characteristics and high resource usage. It demands a lot despite modest visuals and uses significant VRAM and GPU load.
- Settings do not persist or save (weight 0.15): Graphics settings revert to high after leaving the pause menu or are not saved at all. This forces high settings and causes performance issues on weaker hardware.
- Frequent crashes and bugs (weight 0.14): Players experience crashes multiple times in a single playthrough and encounter bugs within the first 15 minutes. These issues further degrade the experience.
- Lowering graphics does not help (weight 0.08): Reducing graphics quality does not improve performance, leaving players unable to mitigate lag. This suggests fundamental optimization issues rather than hardware limitations.
- Minor optimization problems (weight 0.08): Some players note minor optimization issues, though these are less severe than the widespread performance complaints. This indicates variability in experience.
- Sound disappears after minimizing (weight 0.07): The sound cuts out when the game is minimized, which is a minor but noticeable bug. It adds to the list of technical problems.

- Mixed Value as an Introduction (weight 0.13): The game is recommended to everyone for familiarization, yet others see no reason to play it and suggest watching a documentary instead. Its value as an entry point is contested.
- Feels Like a Demo (weight 0.07): One reviewer felt the product works as a demo but not as a full game. This suggests the scope or polish falls short of a complete release.
- Appeals to Grounded Players (weight 0.07): A reviewer states the game is worth playing for everyone with a healthy perception of reality. This implies the content may resonate with players seeking a realistic or grounded experience.
- Driving Tips Shared (weight 0.06): One review offers specific driving advice: drive at maximum maneuverable speed and avoid flooring the accelerator. This suggests the game includes driving mechanics where throttle control matters.

Other player notes:
- Historical Leningrad siege setting (weight 0.48): The game is set during the siege of Leningrad on supply routes, based on real documents and memories. It covers a relatively unexplored historical period with Soviet chronicle inserts.
- Soulful but flawed indie project (weight 0.42): The game was developed with respect for history rather than commercial gain by a whole studio over a year, but is described as a bad product despite a good idea. The developer is criticized as indifferent to feedback.
- Free-to-play distribution model (weight 0.4): Multiple reviewers highlight that the game is distributed for free on Steam and is free for end consumers. Some note it is not entirely free for Russian players due to IRI sponsorship.
- Short interactive film experience (weight 0.3): Reviewers describe the game as a short interactive film about people and the cost of the road, taking about 4-5 hours to complete. It is more about the experience than complex gameplay.
- Unfavorable comparisons to other games (weight 0.23): Reviewers compare the game unfavorably to Call of Duty: World at War and find driving mechanics inferior to MadRunner and My Summer Car. It is also compared to Snowrunner but noted as not that game on a GAZ-AA.
- Historical liberties for gameplay (weight 0.19): The game takes historical liberties for the sake of gameplay while remaining a historical game. Maps of offensives are shown in the house at the start of each level.
- State funding and IRI grant (weight 0.18): The game was developed using state funding and received an IRI grant. It was sponsored by IRI, which affects its free availability for Russian players.
- Positive atmosphere and story praise (weight 0.18): Reviewers compare the game to early Call of Duty titles for atmosphere and story, and praise the author. The story premise is seen as capable of making a very good game.
- Desire to support developers (weight 0.17): The reviewer hopes for bug fixes and improvements and wants to support the developers financially, asking for a donation link. They would be willing to pay for the game despite it being free.
- Simple gameplay focused on experience (weight 0.16): The game is very simple and more about the experience than the gameplay. It was made for weekends and is not intended to be a blockbuster.
- High requirements for visual output (weight 0.13): The game's system requirements are considered very high for the visual output it delivers. However, it can also run on very low-end hardware and still look nice.
- Made on Unreal Engine 5 (weight 0.13): The game is built on Unreal Engine 5, which contributes to its visual presentation. However, some suspect the game was programmed entirely by AI.
- Ambient life and immersion (weight 0.12): The world includes some ambient life with trucks and planes in the distance, adding to immersion. The game uses newsreel footage as cutscenes to enhance the historical feel.
- Russian voice acting included (weight 0.07): The game includes Russian voice acting, which adds authenticity to the setting. This is noted as a positive feature by the reviewer.
- No terramorphing and ice exists (weight 0.06): The game lacks terramorphing features, and ice exists in the environment. This is a specific technical observation from the reviewer.

Emotions:
- Frustration (weight 0.19): Players frequently encounter constant bugs like falling through the map, unexplained deaths, and broken scripts that teleport the player. Severe performance issues include lag, stuttering, and graphics settings that reset and cannot be changed, making the game unplayable on many PCs. Poor controls and design, such as mouse sensitivity not configurable, car handling being awful, and lack of hints, further compound the frustration.
- Disappointment (weight 0.18): The game's promising premise and historical theme are undermined by poor execution, including bad graphics, sound, voice acting, and optimization. Numerous bugs, boring gameplay, and abrupt endings leave players feeling let down. Many note that a good idea was implemented poorly, resulting in an experience that does not live up to its potential.
- Boredom (weight 0.08): The gameplay is criticized as monotonous, consisting mainly of driving forward on ice with scripted button presses and simple fetch tasks. Long stretches of driving through snowy emptiness with little to do and very shallow mechanics lead to boredom. Filler story and tedious minigames further reduce engagement.
- Annoyance (weight 0.05): Players are annoyed by small but irritating issues such as waiting 10 seconds for the engine to start after exiting the vehicle, overlapping audio during conversations, and final cutscenes being much louder than gameplay. Bugs and unchangeable graphics settings also contribute to annoyance, as do checkpoints that slow down the game near the end.
- Dissatisfaction (weight 0.05): Dissatisfaction stems from a combination of dialogue problems, optimization issues, and poor truck handling. The protagonist's appearance is seen as unfitting, and there is too little gameplay and limited historical information. Inconvenient mouse controls and weak voice acting further detract from the experience.
- Appreciation (weight 0.04): Players appreciate that the game addresses the home front feat rarely covered in games and gives credit to unsung heroes of war. The emotional narrative about a historical period and the game being well made considering development constraints are also valued. The focus on an overlooked side of the war resonates with many.
- Immersion (weight 0.03): The game successfully conveys the atmosphere of besieged Leningrad, making players feel like the driver of a truck in a blizzard with dim dashboard lights. The feeling of cold and winter atmosphere is captured nicely, and small cabin details like the ignition lock under the right hand enhance immersion. The stuffy cabin in winter adds to the authentic experience.
- Satisfaction (weight 0.03): Satisfaction comes from good graphics, atmosphere, and car physics that make the game enjoyable. The well-made first three chapters with interesting stories and narrative-driven gameplay packed with atmosphere build a broader picture of the siege. The fact that the game is free and made conscientiously also contributes to satisfaction.
- Hope (weight 0.03): Players hope for a continuation and believe that developers will listen and fix the vehicle control feel. They see potential in the game and hope that more content will be added with updates, as the game is not bad and could become good if finished.
- Anger (weight 0.03): Anger arises from poor performance on non-top PCs and the developer's perceived indifference. Running out of patience in the early sinking car mission and bad voice acting and poor truck sounds also provoke anger. These issues make the game feel unfair and unfinished.
- Admiration (weight 0.03): Admiration is expressed for beautiful graphics, sunsets, and blizzards, as well as the atmosphere and historical weight the game conveys. The author's attention to atmosphere is also praised. Players are impressed by the visual and atmospheric qualities of the game.
- Enjoyment (weight 0.03): Enjoyment comes from fun and challenging gameplay with a historical theme, beautiful views of Lake Ladoga, and an engaging night mission. Easy controls also make the game fun to play. Players find the experience entertaining despite other issues.
- Regret (weight 0.02): Regret is felt because time spent on a buggy game felt wasted. Players wish they had not invested time in a game that did not meet their expectations due to bugs and other problems.
- Engagement (weight 0.02): Engagement is driven by a plot that pulls the reviewer in, along with character stories and the need to make decisions about helping others. These narrative elements keep players invested in the game.
- Interest (weight 0.02): Interest stems from an interesting plot and the project being intriguing despite being raw. Players are curious to see how the game develops and are drawn in by its premise.
- Gratitude (weight 0.02): Gratitude is expressed for the studio making an important and heartfelt project and for the developer's work on the game. Players appreciate the effort and emotional impact of the game.
- Liking (weight 0.02): Liking is based on top-level atmosphere and Russian voice acting, as well as the cool idea of the game. Players enjoy the overall concept and execution in these aspects.
- Confusion (weight 0.01): Confusion arises from the ending not explaining what happened to Fedka and why profanity was censored. Players are left puzzled by these unresolved narrative elements.
- Mild satisfaction (weight 0.01): Mild satisfaction is felt because the game is okay overall, neither outstanding nor terrible. It meets basic expectations but does not excel.
- Deep impression (weight 0.01): A deep impression is left by the atmosphere and the story that leave a mark on the soul. Players are profoundly moved by the game's emotional and atmospheric qualities.}
