Info about Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark:

Official game description:
■A Demonic Metroidvania Adventure
"Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark" is a true metroidvania sequel to the classic-style action game "Gal Guardians: Demon Purge." Two new characters, Kirika and Masha, take the stage with unique playstyles, and you'll need to switch between the two at will in order to fully explore the vast areas and take down enemies and bosses.
■Search the vast Demon Realm to revive your allies
Search for hidden passages, trap doors, and solve puzzles throughout the Demon Realm to collect the scattered bones of the Demon Lord Maxim.
Each sub-weapon and ability you unlock will open up new routes and strategies, requiring every tool at your disposal to fully explore.
As you find and revive Maxim's vassals, they will help strengthen your home base, the Demon Lord's castle. Rebuilding it will provide bonus support features to assist your journey.
Fill out the colorful cast of vassals and see their personalities shine in story cutscenes that play throughout the game.
■Swap between sisters in Demonic action gameplay
Older sister Kirika attacks from a distance with demonic guns while her younger sister Masha covers close ranges with her whip.
They can spend demonic energy to attack with different sub-weapons as well, but it is crucial to switch between the two as the situation changes.
Should one of the sisters be defeated, you can bring her back to life by returning to her location and using "Sister Rescue" to revive her.
■Collect mountains of items
Enemies and treasure chests will earn you consumable items, sub-weapons, and passive enhancements called "Demon Relics" as random drops.
You'll use these items to unlock new special abilities for the sisters and access new areas of the map.
Sub-weapons can be combined and crafted to customize their power, making use of items you wouldn't otherwise need.
Gather, craft, and enhance to power up on your journey.
■Choose the play "Style" that's right for you
Servants of the Dark inherits the "Style" system of its predecessor, allowing you choose between "Casual," "Veteran," and "Legend."
You can switch Styles at any time, and all of the game's content is available no matter what you choose.
Feel free to choose the one that best fits the experience you want on any given day, for a chill time or a challenging endeavor.

Below are summaries of things people say about the game per category.
Each point is assigned a weight that represents how often it is mentioned across all reviews.
What players like:
- Improved Metroidvania experience (weight 0.32): The game significantly improves upon its predecessor by evolving into a Metroidvania with enhanced exploration, more content, and better playability. Reviewers noted the improvements in map design, combat, and overall gameplay experience compared to previous titles in the series.
- Enhanced character mobility (weight 0.31): Character mobility is greatly enhanced through abilities like multiple jumps, air dashes, and a 'Demon King Sprint,' making traversal more fluid and enjoyable. These abilities also allow for quick backtracking and efficient exploration of the game world.
- Rewarding loot and collection (weight 0.1): The game incorporates a rewarding loot system with sub-weapons and upgrade materials dropping from enemies, encouraging combat and exploration. The addition of demon-relics and a compelling collection aspect enhances the sense of progression and replayability.
- Appealing character designs (weight 0.08): The game features appealing character designs and art style, with many reviewers specifically noting the cuteness of the characters. This contributes positively to the overall aesthetic and enjoyment of the game.
- Enjoyable story and voice acting (weight 0.07): The game features a fun and easy-to-follow story, enhanced by full voice acting in event scenes. The narrative contributes to a feel-good vibe and overall enjoyable experience.
- Overpowered skills/weapons (weight 0.05): Certain skills and weapons, like the 'Devil Dash' and upgraded daggers, can become overpowered, trivializing combat encounters, especially in later stages. This can reduce the challenge and enjoyment for some players.
- Exploration enables progression (weight 0.04): The game requires exploration and upgrades to effectively deal damage, and certain abilities are needed to overcome environmental obstacles. This encourages players to fully explore the game world and experiment with different skills.
- Co-operative play available (weight 0.02): The game features co-operative play, allowing for sequence breaking and early access to items. This adds a unique dimension to the gameplay experience and encourages teamwork.

Common complaints:
- Inconvenient fast travel; excessive backtracking (weight 0.96): The game suffers from tedious backtracking due to a poorly implemented fast travel system. Teleportation points are scarce, costly, or unlocked late, forcing players to repeatedly traverse large areas, especially when upgrading or returning after death. This significantly disrupts the game's flow and increases frustration.
- Tedious inventory management; limited space (weight 0.6): The game features poor inventory management due to limited space, excessive item drops, and the lack of essential quality-of-life features. Players are forced to discard items one by one, and the absence of a selling option exacerbates the problem, making treasure hunting and exploration frustrating.
- Poor guidance; unclear instructions (weight 0.58): The game lacks clear guidance and tutorials, leaving players confused about objectives, ability inputs, and game mechanics. Essential information is missing, forcing players to experiment or search online for solutions, which detracts from the overall experience.
- Uninspired and confusing level design (weight 0.5): The game's level design is criticized for being uninspired, repetitive, and confusing, often leading to significant backtracking. The map design is also poor, with limited visibility and a lack of engaging exploration, making navigation a frustrating experience.
- Repetitive and uninspired boss fights (weight 0.49): Boss fights are often repetitive, with inflated HP pools, simple attack patterns, and re-used assets. Some bosses are fought multiple times, and the lack of save points before battles, combined with unskippable cutscenes, adds to player frustration.
- Mandatory grinding for upgrades (weight 0.23): The game forces players to grind for bones to level up and unlock essential exploration abilities. This system is criticized for being tedious and disrupting the game's flow, as players must repeatedly return to town to upgrade.
- Poor audio mixing; lacking controls (weight 0.06): The game lacks separate volume controls for music, sound effects, and voice, leading to an unbalanced audio experience. The soundtrack itself is considered weak, and the default audio mix makes it difficult to hear the music over character voice lines.
- Lacks engaging post-game content (weight 0.04): The game lacks engaging post-game content, such as re-playable events or bonus challenges. The true ending requires excessive material collection, and there is no clear reward for completing all achievements, leaving players with little incentive to continue playing after the main story.
- Poor early-game movement options (weight 0.03): The game's early experience is negatively impacted by limited movement options, with essential abilities like the super dash being unlocked late. This forces players to traverse large, empty spaces repeatedly, making the initial hours of the game tedious and frustrating.

Gameplay feedback:
- Familiar Metroidvania, lacks innovation (weight 0.2): The game adopts a Metroidvania structure with interconnected maps and ability-gated progression, but reuses assets and gameplay elements from previous titles. While competent, the level design and mechanics lack innovation, relying on familiar tropes.
- Environmental puzzles with ice abilities (weight 0.09): The game features environmental puzzles involving freezing water and magma with ice abilities, including a super dash and demon dash that allows traversal on these surfaces. However, the mechanics and limitations of these abilities are not always clearly communicated.
- Characters with different mechanics (weight 0.07): The game features characters with different mechanics, such as a gun user and a whip user, and allows switching between characters. One character's technique allows her to deal high damage, making her the better character when the target is grounded.
- Poorly explained mechanics (weight 0.06): Several game mechanics, such as seed usage and special attacks, are poorly explained or have obscure input methods. This lack of clarity forces players to experiment without guidance.
- Empty world, cumbersome map (weight 0.06): The game world feels empty despite its size, and the map system is cumbersome to use. The map lacks a mini-map, and looking at the map doesn't pause the gameplay, making navigation difficult.
- Cumbersome UI for customization (weight 0.03): The game allows for customization of sub-weapons and skills, but the user interface is difficult to navigate. Additionally, the shop resets after each edit, which is inconvenient.
- Unreliable platforming with weapons (weight 0.03): The sword and throwing spear can be used as platforms, but their hit detection is unreliable. The spear can also be stabbed into the floor when jumping, which is counterintuitive.
- Sub-weapons for exploration (weight 0.03): Exploration relies heavily on inherited sub-weapons, making wall breaking a frequent mechanic. The game features sub-weapons that can be crafted with random skills, encouraging experimentation.

Performance notes:
- Occasional game crashes (weight 0.03): Some players have reported occasional crashes. While the exact causes and frequency are unclear, this can disrupt gameplay. The issue appears to be more prevalent in the initial release.
- Steam Input configuration needed (weight 0.02): The game relies on Steam Input for controller support, which may require manual configuration. Specifically, the d-pad may need to be set up to emulate the left stick for movement, adding extra steps for players.
- Low PC requirements (weight 0.02): The game has very low PC system requirements. This makes the game accessible to players with older or less powerful hardware.
- Map icon deletion bug (weight 0.02): A minor bug causes deleted map icons to reappear when viewing the map from a fast travel point. This is a specific, reproducible issue that may slightly inconvenience players.

Recommendations:
- Conditional recommendation for genre fans (weight 0.42): Many reviews conditionally recommend the game, often based on specific preferences like enjoying the previous game, anime-style graphics, or being a fan of the Metroidvania genre. Some suggest waiting for a sale or updates to address perceived shortcomings. Some reviewers also suggest that the game is only good for killing time.
- Game is overpriced (weight 0.18): Multiple reviewers feel the game is overpriced for its current state and suggest a lower price point would be more appropriate. This sentiment indicates that the perceived value doesn't align with the asking price.
- Previous game was better (weight 0.05): Some reviewers feel that the current game is inferior to the previous game in the series. They cite reasons such as the previous game being more exhilarating.
- Good Inti Creates game (weight 0.04): The game is only recommended for dedicated Inti Creates fans. However, one reviewer claims that this is the best game Inti Creates has created in the last 10 years or more.
- Marcia is cute (weight 0.02): The reviewer gives the game a positive review because Marcia is cute. Despite its flaws, the reviewer found the gameplay of rampaging through areas with Marsha at high speed to be quite enjoyable.
- Game may be too easy (weight 0.02): The game may feel too easy if sub-weapons are not restricted, which may impact the game's difficulty.
- Repetitive progression (weight 0.02): The game's progression, relying on jumping, dashing, and tackling, may feel repetitive compared to the varied methods in previous titles.
- Limited character differences (weight 0.01): The differences between the sisters are limited to basic attacks and unique sub-weapons.
- Needs 4K resolution (weight 0.01): The game needs a 4K resolution option.
- Start on highest difficulty (weight 0.01): Experienced Castlevania players are recommended to start at the highest difficulty.
- Inferior to other Metroidvanias (weight 0.01): The game is significantly inferior to TEVI and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Other player notes:
- Lacks proper ending sequence (weight 0.04): The game lacks an ending sequence and credits, with the staff list displayed at the title screen. Additionally, the final boss fight is the same for both the true and normal endings, unlike the previous game, and collecting all the bones may lock the player into the true ending.
- High-quality sprite animations (weight 0.03): The game features high-quality sprite animations, especially for the main characters, and attention to detail is evident in the game's animations. The graphics are visually appealing.
- Lacks key descriptions/hints (weight 0.03): The game lacks key descriptions and hints, making it difficult to progress, especially for players unfamiliar with certain mechanics. This is a notable issue given the game's art style suggests a lighter, more accessible audience.
- Useful NPCs: Charon, Blacksmith (weight 0.03): Charon (teleportation) in the castle is the most useful NPC. The blacksmith can enhance sub-weapons and transfer stats.
- Unremarkable, incomplete story (weight 0.03): The game's story is unremarkable and feels abrupt and incomplete. However, there are some amusing moments when roleplaying as the demon king.
- Moderate difficulty level (weight 0.02): The game's difficulty itself isn't high, which is a saving grace. Some friction in the game feels like an intended design choice.
- Minor character design details (weight 0.02): These points focus on minor details like character animations and design choices related to cuteness. They don't offer significant insights into gameplay or overall quality.
- Reviewer context (weight 0.02): The reviewer is curious about the release dates of GV4, IX3, and BM4. The reviewer notes that the review is being written soon after release, so spoilers are avoided. PQube provided a free key to show the game off to Twitch and YouTube communities.
- Some NPCs are useless (weight 0.02): Some NPCs serve no purpose, such as those for changing game difficulty and the online lobby NPC, as the online function is not available. This creates a sense of incompleteness or misleading design.
- Fountains are best money (weight 0.01): The biggest source of money is from fountains, so try to activate every fountain in each area.
- Stereotypical Japanese impressions (weight 0.01): The game's overall design is filled with stereotypical impressions of Japanese people. This point lacks specific examples and may be based on subjective interpretation.
- Change to metroidvania disliked (weight 0.01): Some may not like the change to metroidvania. This point is subjective and lacks specific details.
- Not an adult game (weight 0.01): The game is not an eroge (adult game).
- Map pin removal key is 'J' (weight 0.01): The map pin removal key is 'J'.
