About this game
---------------
Hi, I’m Niklas – the developer of Small Spaces. My goal is to make a game that puts you into a creative flow without you even noticing. And a lot of the player feedback has been exactly that. So, if you’re looking for a relaxing game to take your mind off stressful thoughts, Small Spaces might be just the creative escape you were looking for :)
What can you expect?
--------------------
**Shape the space your way**
Turn the small spaces fully upside down with your creativity! Modular kitchens? Loft apartments? Find smart solutions and design unique spaces that are functional and beautiful. Add indirect lighting, plants and more to decorate and personalize your space down to the smallest detail.
**Inspired by real places**
On Early Access start, you’ll design in 3 different locations:
* **New York** – raw industrial factories and warehouses turned into gorgeous loft apartments with high ceilings and expansive windows.
* **Berlin** – historic apartments with the typical 1900 european charm and beautiful bay windows. Think vintage charm meets quiet elegance.
* **Tokyo** – mid-century inspired simplistic apartments with sliding doors and sometimes warm concrete wall finishes.
Together, these offer **9 apartments**, each with a distinct layout and creative feel. More locations and styles will be added throughout Early Access.
**Stories that guide**
Every space has its own objectives, story and people who live there – ranging from a student in a shared flat to a couple sharing their first apartment together. The objectives inspire to design spaces that are not only pretty, but also practical and give you just enough inspiration to get started while not restricting your creativity.
**Carefully crafted high quality assets**
The game already features more than **500 furniture and decor items** inspired by different styles – including comfy scandinavian beds, unique modern japanese lamps and decoration items from a record player to sewing utensils.
I truly care about original art and all of the beautiful illustrations in the game are hand drawn from an illustrator.
**Walk through your creations in first person**
Switch to a first-person view to experience your design from the inside – like someone who actually lives there and view your creations as the sunlight shifts from crisp morning to warm golden hour to cozy nighttime with the glow of the indirect lighting you set up.
**Unlock new content as you play**
You start out with just a portion of tools and furniture at your hand and unlock new content as you complete objectives. Get new materials from stone terrazzo to various wood types and unlock new tools to build loft apartments, modular kitchens or wall panels. The more you create, the more options you gain.
I recommend buying this game if:
--------------------------------
* You play life sims mostly for home design
* You like relaxing games that spark your creativity
* You’re a design lover or architecture nerd
It might not be for you if:
---------------------------
* You want to design floor plans from scratch – we’re building a creative mode where you can build your own layouts, but as of now you furnish existing apartments.
* You’re expecting to import your own models or textures – that kind of freedom isn’t in the game (yet!)

Feature scans:
- Proton/Linux: score 75; verdict: Barely Playable with Workarounds; summary: Linux/Proton compatibility is clearly rough. The game does not launch out of the box on SteamOS, with at least one user reporting a complete failure to start. Other users must apply specific launch options (e.g., -d3d11 3) or rely on developer-provided workarounds to get it running. Official Steam Deck support is not yet available, and the overall experience is workaround-heavy and unstable.
- Steam Deck: score 85; verdict: Broken on Steam Deck; summary: The game is effectively broken on Steam Deck: it fails to launch or crashes the console, controls are confusing without proper controller support, and performance issues like overheating are widespread. Despite being marked as playable, the Steam Deck experience is severely compromised.

- Hardware Profile:
  - Summary: Performance generally improves with higher VRAM, with lower-VRAM systems facing more optimization issues and instability, while higher-end systems report smooth gameplay.
  - Sample size: 64 (6% coverage)
  - Audience skew: Review sample is mostly Windows-based.
  - Windows <8GB VRAM (mixed, 38 reports): Reports are mixed: some users enjoy the game but note optimization problems, while others experience severe stuttering, rendering bugs, and crashes.
  - Windows 8-11GB VRAM (positive, 10 reports): Mostly positive, with minor issues like object tearing or temporary performance hiccups that resolve after restart.
  - Windows 12-15GB VRAM (positive, 10 reports): Positive, with solid performance on high settings and only occasional mentions of demanding requirements.
  - Windows 16GB+ VRAM (positive, 5 reports): Positive, with no performance complaints from the high-end hardware user.
  - Caveats: 64 of 1154 reviews expose hardware metadata.; Review sample is mostly Windows-based.
Feature extractions:
- Community Price:
  - Community fair range: $10.00 - $15.00
  - Reasoning: The community generally views the game as worth its price, especially when discounted. A $10 sale price is repeatedly called a 'steal,' implying the base price is higher, likely in the $15 range. However, some reviews suggest the game is only worth it on sale, indicating the full price may be slightly high for the current early-access content. The mention of 'a couple of quid' (a few pounds) suggests a low price point, but the consistent praise for the $10 sale price points to a fair base range of $10–15.
- Playtime Metrics:
  - Game completion: 4.0h
  - Story completion: N/A
  - Session length: 5.0h
  - Endgame: 3.0h
  - Reasoning: Game completion is supported by two reviews stating 4 hours to finish all 9 apartments and unlock everything. Story completion has no explicit time, so it is null. Session length is supported by a 5-hour session and a 6-hour straight session, so a typical session is around 5 hours. Endgame (unlocking all tools) is reported as 3 hours in one review, so endgame is set to 3.
- Time-to-fun:
  - Summary: The game is immediately engaging and addictive for most players, but its limited item variety and repetitive objectives lead to boredom after a few hours, with occasional renewals of interest when new items are unlocked.
  - Stance: Fun then drops
  - Anchor: Starting to decorate
  - Time to anchor: N/A
  - Friction: no tutorial; bugs and choppiness; limited item selection; slow progression
  - Unlock drivers: unlocking new objects and themes; unlocking all furniture and layouts; game updates
  - Conditions: if you enjoy creative sandbox; if you can tolerate early access bugs; if you have patience to unlock items; if you like cozy games; if you don't mind repetition
