About the Game
==============
**Desperate Place** is a space sci-fi themed base-building tower defense game.
In the year EC3040, humanity is no longer confined to Earth and has begun to colonize the stars, exploring new habitable planets. During the journey to the KOI 7711.01 planet, the colony ship unexpectedly encounters an extremely strong ion beam wave released by a red giant star, causing a leak of helium-3 stored in the fuel compartment. The ship is forced to land on an unknown planet, where it must search for helium-3 to maintain fuel supply and repair the damaged vessel. To make matters worse, every time helium-3 particles are brought back to the ship, unknown creatures on the planet launch an attack on the ship. To successfully reach your destination, you must temporarily build a small base to eliminate all incoming enemies.
**Build - Resources are the Key to Survival**
---------------------------------------------
As the commander, you need to use the limited resources at hand to build a small base capable of completing the mission.
Building a base on the desolate surface of an alien planet is no easy task; it requires careful planning of the base layout and choosing the best locations to construct resource extraction stations and research facilities. To fend off attacks from unknown creatures, it is also necessary to build sufficient defensive structures, including not only defensive towers but also traps and obstacles that take advantage of the terrain to slow down enemy advances.
**Dangerous - Overcoming Fear with Firepower**
----------------------------------------------
All fear stems from a lack of firepower. Overcome your fear of the unknown creatures with superior firepower!
The game offers a variety of defensive towers, including artillery towers, laser towers, and missile launchers, each with its specific range and damage type. Please arrange the defensive towers rationally according to the characteristics and attack routes of the enemies to form a crossfire network and maximize damage output.
Enemies will become stronger and more diverse as the game progresses. Continuously adapt and upgrade your defenses to give these pesky creatures a taste of bullets.
**Strategizing - Never Settle for the Status Quo**
--------------------------------------------------
To complete the mission, you need to utilize all available resources: barriers, towers, traps, and even yourself and the little robot that accompanies you.
Even if you are temporarily safe, never settle for the status quo. The planet's weather is unpredictable and can affect your established defense plans at any time. Do not have any mercy for the monsters on this planet.

Common complaints:
- Limited strategic freedom/customization (weight 0.91): Players feel restricted by the game's lack of strategic freedom. This is primarily due to predetermined building/tower locations and limited control over character progression, both within and outside of matches. This reduces the depth and replayability compared to similar games.
- Clunky/inefficient controls and UI (weight 0.65): Several reviews criticize the game's control scheme and UI. Specific issues include cumbersome keyboard navigation, inefficient drone controls, unintuitive menu placement, and the lack of mouse control for certain actions.

- Slow character movement (weight 0.48): The player character's slow movement speed is a recurring complaint. This makes it difficult to reinforce different battlefields and respond effectively to threats, impacting the overall flow of gameplay.
- Problematic enemy design/balance (weight 0.27): Certain enemy types, particularly ranged units and siege beasts, are cited as problematic. They often outrange player defenses, attack from unexpected directions, or have unfairly designed combinations, requiring excessive manual intervention and disrupting strategic planning.
- Unintuitive restart function (weight 0.07): The game's restart function is unintuitive, requiring players to navigate to the challenge menu instead of providing a main menu option. Additionally, the confirmation process for abandoning a save can lead to accidental save deletion.
- Frustrating supply drop mechanic (weight 0.07): The game introduces supply drops without warning, leading to initial deaths and forcing players to choose between contesting these drops and maintaining their home production, creating a frustrating dilemma.

- Repetitive music (weight 0.04): The repetitive music becomes tiring during extended play sessions. This is a minor issue, but it can detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
- Excessively high scores (weight 0.03): The high scores of top players are excessively high. This may indicate potential issues with the game's scoring system or the presence of cheating.

Gameplay feedback:
- Combines tower defense and RTS (weight 0.53): The game blends tower defense with RTS elements, resource management, and base building. Players progress through these stages, unlocking new content and earning rewards. The pace is adjustable, allowing players to carefully analyze parameters and develop high-scoring strategies.
- Unlockable technologies and temporary tactics (weight 0.14): Completing levels earns medals or currency, which can be used to unlock technologies, characters, and tactics. Tactics, similar to items, provide temporary buffs to turrets or resource acquisition, adding a layer of strategic depth.
- Daytime building, nighttime combat (weight 0.11): The game involves base building and upgrades during the day, followed by combat against monsters at night. Strategic planning is required for daytime upgrades, and the initial nights are manageable with just the player's firearms.

- Worth the asking price (weight 0.15): Many reviewers feel the game is worth its price, especially considering it's an indie title. They highlight its engaging gameplay and the entertainment value it provides for the cost. Some reviews were overly positive without providing much substance, so the score was reduced.
- Prioritize early defense/turrets (weight 0.12): The game requires strategic prioritization of defensive structures, such as automatic turrets, early on. Placing multiple turrets is recommended for better defense, especially against more durable monsters that appear later in the game. These points provide specific gameplay advice, increasing their importance.
- Appeals to varied players (weight 0.1): The game appeals to different player types, including strategy enthusiasts who enjoy detailed planning, sci-fi fans who like swarm aesthetics, and casual players. This broad appeal is a positive aspect of the game. The points are relatively general, so the importance is moderate.
- Inferior to 'Thronefall' (weight 0.04): One reviewer explicitly states that the game is not as enjoyable as 'Thronefall'. This comparison suggests that the game may fall short of expectations for players familiar with similar titles. This is a single comparison, so the importance is low.
