Whether you’re returning to the Garden or stepping inside for the first time, 1.0 is the biggest version of Garden of Witches yet!
The Epilogue Continues
----------------------
Return to the Garden and meet the new witches you need to gather for the tea party. Epilogues 2 and 3 grow the Garden and continue the story beyond Epilogue 1 while bringing the Epilogue Arc to an epic conclusion. Along the way, you will also be able to unlock new Scissors and Spells!
Combat Rebuilt from Beginning to End
------------------------------------
We have replaced the old Attribute and Synergy system with a more flexible combat and progression system, which focuses on Scissors, Spells, Imprints, and Relics. New mechanics such as Charge, Combo, and Channeling add new ways to use your Scissors and Spells and give them each a stronger identity. Imprints now allow you to further shape your favorite Scissors and Spells so you can customize your builds in ways that weren’t possible before.
Keyboard & Mouse Support is Here
--------------------------------
Our most requested control scheme is finally here. Garden of Witches now fully supports Keyboard & Mouse controls, so you can choose the control style that works best for you, whether that is Keyboard-Only, Gamepad, or Keyboard & Mouse.
Steam Achievements are Here
---------------------------
Another highly requested feature is finally here. As promised, we have added Steam Achievements to 1.0. Now, you can unlock achievements while slashing your way through the Garden, discovering its secrets, and customizing your builds.
Japanese Voice Overs
--------------------
We have brought Sil and the witches of the Garden to life with Japanese voice overs! However, at the moment, voiceovers are only available in the main story from Chapters 1 to 5.
A New Challenge Awaits After the Story
--------------------------------------
Challenge Mode has been reworked and now unlocks after clearing Epilogue 3. Choose the challenge you want to tackle and put your strongest builds to the test.
Completed with Your Feedback
----------------------------
Garden of Witches has changed enormously throughout Early Access, and many of those changes were shaped by your feedback. Thank you for playing our game, reporting bugs, and sharing your ideas. Everything helped us improve the Garden.
1.0 isn’t just the end of Early Access, it’s the beginning of Garden of Witches’ full release.
About the Game
==============
**Garden of Witches** is a fast-paced action roguelike where you wield giant scissors and use witchcraft to bring down other witches in the Garden. You’ll need to master enemy attack patterns, create powerful builds, and fight to bring together all the witches before the Garden falls apart.
**Beat Witches into Submission**
--------------------------------
As the Thread Witch, you need to gather all the witches for an annual tea party ritual, but they aren’t going to attend the tea party willingly. Face distinct bosses with their own personalities, transformations, and attack patterns. Learn how each one fights, and find the opening you need to beat them into submission.
**Unleash Your Choice of Witchcraft**
-------------------------------------
Choose your favorite Scissors, Spells, and Special Skills from your Armory and personalize how you fight to save the Garden. While going through the Garden, you will be able to strengthen the abilities you love with Imprints and Relics and reshape how familiar skills behave from run to run.
**Bond with Your Coven**
------------------------
Explore a hand-drawn world of mesmerizing witchcraft and wayward witches, each with their own unique domain. Get to know them through the game’s main five-chapter story arc and continue your journey through a three-part epilogue arc.
**Japanese Voice Cast**
**Defy Death and Return Stronger**
----------------------------------
A witch’s death does not end their story. Return stronger with permanent upgrades and knowledge of your past runs. Then experiment with other Spells and refine your favorite builds while pushing your mastery of witchcraft. Once you reach the peak, put your craft to the test by customizing the difficulty of the Garden.
**Round up the witches. Save the Garden.**
------------------------------------------
And try not to get yourself killed along the way, even witches don’t like dying too much.

Feature scans:
- Steam Deck: score 10; verdict: Seamless on Steam Deck; summary: User reviews consistently report excellent Steam Deck compatibility with smooth performance and ideal pacing for handheld sessions. No technical barriers or tinkering requirements are mentioned.

- Hardware Profile: No data
Feature extractions:
- Community Price:
  - Community fair range: $10.00 - $15.00
  - Reasoning: Multiple reviews indicate that the current $18.99 price feels too high given the early access state and limited content (e.g., 6 hours of playtime). The Japanese price of 2200 yen (~$15) is described as borderline or slightly overpriced. Positive reviews still recommend waiting for a discount, suggesting that $10-$15 is a more acceptable range for the community.
- Playtime Metrics:
  - Game completion: 6.5h
  - Story completion: 6.0h
  - Session length: N/A
  - Endgame: N/A
  - Reasoning: Session length: the explicit quote 'most runs only take about 20 mins' directly supports a 0.33 hour session average. Story completion: the quote 'It took me around 6 hours to beat the story on standard difficulty' gives a clear 6-hour benchmark for the main narrative. Game completion: multiple sources provide total playtime estimates—'I beat all the chapters, epilogue, and some of the end game within 6 hours' and 'About 8 hours of game play, 12 for full achievements'—with a typical full clear falling around 6.5 hours (midpoint of reported 6–8 hours). No direct hour evidence for how long the endgame alone takes, so 'endgame' is set to null.

Common complaints:
- Insufficient content for price (weight 0.36): Many players report that the game has too little content relative to its cost, citing short playthroughs and sparse content volume. This is the most frequent complaint across clusters.
- Difficulty spikes and imbalance (weight 0.21): Bosses have high health and intense attack patterns, creating steep difficulty spikes, especially in the epilogue. Normal difficulty is too easy, while the epilogue becomes frustratingly hard.
- Weak roguelike elements (weight 0.17): The roguelike aspects lack depth, variety, and excitement, with minimal random elements and shallow progression. Players find runs repetitive and not engaging enough for the genre.
- Limited build variety (weight 0.11): Weapons, skills, and builds lack diversity, making choices feel repetitive and limiting replayability. Some builds are also unbalanced, with weak options that are not viable.
- Short story and narrative (weight 0.11): The story is brief, predictable, and repetitive across runs, with little text and minimal variation. Players expect more narrative depth and content.
- Dodge cooldown issues (weight 0.09): The dodge cooldown is too long, especially at the start, leading to unavoidable damage when players misjudge timing. This feels punishing and reduces combat fluidity.
- Poor hit feedback (weight 0.07): Players struggle to tell if they landed hits or got hit due to weak attack and skill feedback. This impacts combat readability and overall satisfaction.
- Lack of mouse support (weight 0.07): The game provides no mouse input support on PC, which is unusual and inconvenient for players preferring mouse controls. This is a notable accessibility and control issue.
- Build balance issues (weight 0.07): Some builds are too weak or overpowered, leading to imbalance and frustration. Nerfs to strong builds without adequate compensation reduce viable options.
- Tutorial issues (weight 0.07): The tutorial is either missing or unnecessarily hard, confusing players from the start. Some find it pointless, while others struggle with its difficulty.
- Controller customization lacking (weight 0.05): Controller buttons cannot be remapped, limiting customization for players with specific preferences. This is an accessibility and usability deficiency.
- No mid-run saves (weight 0.04): The game does not save progress during a run, forcing players to restart from the beginning if they quit. This makes progression inconvenient and punishes interruptions.
- Story repetition across runs (weight 0.04): The same story is shown each run with only minor changes, causing narrative fatigue. Players desire more variety or meaningful branching.
- Enemy attack frequency high (weight 0.04): Enemies attack too frequently, leaving few openings for player attacks and forcing constant dodging. This makes combat feel tedious and less strategic.
- Level design basic (weight 0.04): Levels are rudimentary and lack creativity, making exploration feel flat and unrewarding. Players expect more engaging environments.
- Final boss darkness (weight 0.04): The final boss area is too dark, making attack telegraphs difficult to distinguish and increasing frustration. This visual clarity issue hampers gameplay.
- No healing after bosses (weight 0.04): Players receive no healing after boss fights, limiting recovery and forcing restarts. This feels overly punishing and lengthens battles.
- Epilogue DPS check (weight 0.04): The epilogue boss has a time-based DPS check that causes instant death on timeout, frustrating players who cannot meet the requirement. Later changes removed it but intensified attacks.
- UI needs refinement (weight 0.04): The user interface in menus and accessibility options could be improved, with players noting rough edges. Better polish would enhance overall experience.
- Enemy respawn confusion (weight 0.03): Enemies respawn at the same location shortly after death, breaking immersion and confusing players about progression. This disrupts the flow of combat.

Gameplay feedback:
- Game is a roguelike action title (weight 0.48): The game is consistently described as a roguelike or roguelite action game, featuring run-based progression, weapon selection, and skill choices before entering dungeons. It includes meta-progression and replayability typical of the genre.
- Multiple difficulty modes available (weight 0.26): The game offers several difficulty settings, including story, normal, hard, and very hard modes. Higher difficulties escalate challenge, often removing conveniences like dash invincibility.
- Chapter-based story structure (weight 0.16): The game is organized into chapters, each with unique enemies, territories, and final bosses. This structure complements the roguelike loop by providing clear progression and narrative beats.
- Skill synergies shape builds (weight 0.14): Players can create synergistic builds by selecting compatible skills and weapons. The synergy system requires strategic thinking to optimize combat effectiveness.
- Challenging boss fights with patterns (weight 0.13): Boss battles are a core element, featuring telegraphed attacks that require learning and repetition to overcome. Difficulty spikes are noted, especially on harder settings.
- Dash invincibility varies by difficulty (weight 0.09): Dash provides invincibility frames on normal and story modes, but this is removed on very hard difficulty. This change significantly raises the skill requirement for dodging.
- Dodge-heavy combat mechanics (weight 0.07): Combat revolves around perfectly timed dodges to avoid enemy attacks. The gameplay is heavily reliant on mastering this mechanic, especially against boss patterns.
- Diverse weapon and build options (weight 0.07): Players can choose from various weapons and skills, allowing for distinct playstyles. Build variety is supported by weapon-specific upgrades and synergies.
- Moderate overall difficulty (weight 0.07): Despite high-difficulty options, the base game is considered average to medium in challenge. This makes it accessible to a wide range of players.
- Difficulty selectable at start (weight 0.07): Players can choose difficulty at the beginning of the game and adjust it during play. This flexibility accommodates both casual and hardcore players.
- Similar to Hades gameplay (weight 0.07): The game shares structural and combat similarities with Hades, including run-based progression and a slow tempo. This comparison is used by reviewers to describe its feel.
- Scissors and magic weapons (weight 0.07): Combat features two primary weapon types: scissors and magic. This unique combination defines the hack-and-slash gameplay and adds variety.
- Difficulty increases with chapters (weight 0.06): As players advance through chapters, enemy patterns and boss difficulty escalate. This gradual rise in challenge keeps the game engaging but can become punishing.
- Limited skill slots per run (weight 0.06): Each run allows selecting only two skills from a pool, promoting focused builds. This limitation encourages strategic choices and replayability.
- Story-focused roguelike hybrid (weight 0.05): The game emphasizes narrative more than typical roguelikes, blending story progression with roguelike elements. This hybrid approach may appeal to story-driven players.
- Epilogue changes progression system (weight 0.05): After the main story, the epilogue introduces a different progression system, altering gameplay mechanics. This adds variety but may confuse some players.
- Linear story with clear progression (weight 0.05): The game features a clear linear narrative that progresses through runs. This structure provides direction and purpose for repeated playthroughs.
- Calm and relaxed roguelike style (weight 0.05): The game is described as having a calm, moderate tempo, contrasting with more frantic roguelikes. This makes it suitable for players seeking a more laid-back experience.
- Epilogue imposes time limit (weight 0.05): The epilogue introduces a time limit that, if exceeded, results in instant death. This mechanic adds pressure and changes the pacing of the endgame.

Performance notes:
- Performance issues and frame drops (weight 0.12): Multiple clusters report performance problems including frame stutters, drops from 144 to 60 FPS, lag when closing, and drops during the night club stage and final boss. High temperatures suggest optimization needs improvement, while one cluster rates optimization 8/10 and another notes general smoothness besides these issues.
- Worse after update stuttering (weight 0.03): Cluster 8 specifically indicates optimization worsened after an update, leading to frequent stuttering. This suggests a regression in performance compared to earlier versions, which is a concern for players who experienced smoother gameplay before.
- Integrated graphics lag on boss (weight 0.03): Cluster 9 notes severe lag on a certain black boss when running on integrated graphics, while earlier levels run smoothly. This indicates a specific bottleneck or unoptimized effect in that encounter, affecting players with lower-end hardware disproportionately.
