Below are summaries of things people say about the game per category.
Each point is assigned a weight that represents how often it is mentioned across all reviews.
What players like:
- Well-made, polished, and improving (weight 0.82): The game is generally well-made, easy to learn, and visually appealing, with a smooth UI. The developers are responsive and actively fix bugs, improving the overall experience, especially during early access.
- Addictive and engaging gameplay loop (weight 0.7): The game offers an engaging and addictive gameplay loop that keeps players hooked. Its simple mechanics and satisfying progression make it easy to lose hours in base-building, exploration, and management.
- Captures the Stargate feel (weight 0.32): The game successfully captures the essence of the Stargate franchise, providing a Stargate-like experience that fans have long desired. The theme enhances the fun and enjoyment of the game.
- Mix of Dungeon Keeper, Evil Genius (weight 0.31): The game blends elements from Dungeon Keeper, Evil Genius, and Stargate, creating a unique and enjoyable management experience. It streamlines micromanagement and offers a fresh take on familiar mechanics.
- Engaging base-building and exploration (weight 0.31): The game features engaging base-building mechanics combined with exploration, research, and resource management. The base-building is intuitive and free-form, allowing for creative customization and progression.
- Interesting concept with great potential (weight 0.28): The game has an interesting core concept and shows great potential, especially considering it's from a small studio and in early access. Reviewers express anticipation for future improvements and expansions.
- Promising future content additions (weight 0.07): The game incorporates strategy elements and plans to add more content and features, such as alien invasions and other factions. This promises to enhance the mid- to late-game experience.
- Strategic team management system (weight 0.05): The game features a well-designed personnel management and team creation system. Players can strategically choose team members with unique advantages and customize their teams.
- Amusing humor and events (weight 0.05): The game incorporates humor through events and mission design. Players can direct the missions of individual teams with small instructions, which is a nice gag.
- Initially enjoyable experience (weight 0.03): The reviewer initially liked the game. This point is vague and lacks specific details, so it receives a low importance score.

Common complaints:
- Economic imbalance, flawed patent system (weight 0.76): The game suffers from significant economic imbalances, with issues ranging from resource scarcity to an excess of money with limited spending options. The patent system, a core mechanic for generating income, is frequently cited as problematic, with reviewers noting issues such as low payouts, short durations, and a reliance on random mission rewards. This creates a frustrating and inconsistent gameplay experience.
- Repetitive, lacks depth and content (weight 0.75): The game quickly becomes repetitive and boring due to a lack of engaging content, meaningful progression, and clear goals. Players report a monotonous gameplay loop with little variation, leading to a short playtime and limited replay value. Many reviewers felt the game lacked depth and failed to maintain their interest beyond the initial stages.
- Unbalanced difficulty, frequent invasions (weight 0.69): Players find the game's difficulty unbalanced, particularly with frequent and overwhelming alien attacks. The game often fails to adequately prepare players for these invasions, leading to frustration and a feeling of helplessness. Some reviewers noted that even on the easiest difficulty, the constant attacks can force players to restart or abandon their playthroughs.
- Poor UI, cumbersome micromanagement (weight 0.63): The game's UI is poorly designed, lacking essential information and quality-of-life features. This leads to excessive micromanagement, difficulty comparing character information, and an overall frustrating user experience. Reviewers specifically mention cumbersome team and personnel management due to unintuitive interfaces.
- Late-game performance issues (weight 0.58): The game suffers from performance issues, particularly in the late game when bases become large. Players report experiencing lag, stuttering, and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. Some reviewers also noted excessive RAM consumption and disk space reservation, further impacting performance.
- Shallow, restrictive tech tree (weight 0.57): The game's technology tree is shallow, uninteresting, and restrictive. The pre-planned tech progression forces players to rush certain technologies, limiting early-game choices and making the game too easy once the optimal unlock order is known. Some reviewers felt the tech tree was simply padding, lacking meaningful depth or strategic options.
- Buggy AI, pathing problems (weight 0.56): The game's AI exhibits buggy behavior, with NPCs getting stuck, failing to perform essential tasks, or being unable to reach stations due to pathing issues. This requires manual intervention from the player and disrupts the overall gameplay experience. Some reviewers noted that these AI issues can even break the save game.
- Tedious exosuit management (weight 0.07): Obtaining and managing exosuits, which are required to visit certain worlds, is tedious and problematic. Players report issues with slow research, rare element requirements, and bugs that prevent exosuits from being picked up. The need to assign individual suit lockers to each person further complicates team management.
- Restrictive Gater limit (weight 0.07): The game's limitation of only 50 Gaters (workers) feels restrictive and creates a desire for a mod or patch to increase this number. This limit can strain resources, especially when war breaks out and multiple teams of soldiers are needed. Some reviewers also dislike the RNG-based death of Gaters, as replacements start at level 1.

Gameplay feedback:
- Stargate-themed base-building and exploration (weight 0.34): The game blends base building and exploration with a Stargate-inspired theme. Players manage a base, send teams on missions through gates, and expand their influence across the galaxy. Base management is similar to Dungeon Keeper or Evil Genius.
- Team-based exploration and missions (weight 0.25): A core gameplay loop involves assembling teams with diverse specializations and sending them on missions to explore planets, gather resources, conduct research, and make choices that impact the team. These missions often present narrative scenarios and challenges.
- Revenue through patents and mining (weight 0.1): Players earn money primarily through researching and patenting scientific discoveries from explored planets, as well as by mining and selling rare metals. This income is crucial for upgrading the base and funding further exploration.
- Enemies target generators in invasions (weight 0.08): During base invasions, enemies often prioritize generators, bypassing defenses to target power sources directly. Defending the gate entry is ineffective, and the gate room lacks effective internal defenses.
- Procedural star map impacts expansion (weight 0.06): The game features a procedurally generated star map, which can make early expansion challenging due to the random distribution of resource-rich planets. Connecting to planets reveals more of the map, aiding in strategic expansion.
- Tutorial lacks specific details (weight 0.05): The tutorial explains general concepts but leaves players to discover specific details themselves. The game's complexity arises from the multitude of interconnected systems, rather than the individual simplicity of each aspect.
- Evolves into 4X with aliens (weight 0.05): The game evolves into a 4X experience with diplomacy and conflict with alien races. Players research new technologies to interact with sentient alien life, and can compete with other factions for planetary control.
- Strong research, limited combat (weight 0.05): The game features a well-developed research simulation and involves managing various professions. The focus is on science and exploration, with some reviewers expressing a desire for simulated combat with aliens.
- Tech tree depth is debated (weight 0.05): Reviews are mixed regarding the tech tree, with some finding it deep enough to provide variety, while others describe it as limited or short. This suggests a potential area for improvement or further development.
- Team experience impacts mission suitability (weight 0.04): Experienced teams should be reserved for exploring new worlds, while new Gaters should handle low-level mining or scientific expeditions to level them up. Gaters bring back finds from missions that provide a single boost to research.
- Varied planet gameplay and levels (weight 0.04): Gameplay on different planets is varied, and planets increase in level, requiring special equipment to explore. The game features containments for specimens found on planets.
- Simplistic enemy AI and combat (weight 0.04): The game's AI functions adequately, but enemy AI and combat are simplistic. The game loop complexity and player control minimize the choices the AI has to make.

Performance notes:
- Graphics appear dated (weight 0.02): Some reviewers feel that the game's graphics appear dated compared to modern standards. This point is based on subjective visual assessment rather than specific technical flaws.
- Crashes can be triggered intentionally (weight 0.01): The ability to intentionally trigger crashes suggests potential exploits or unstable game states. However, the fact that they are avoidable reduces the severity of this issue.

Recommendations:
- Needs more polish and content (weight 0.93): Many reviewers feel the game needs more polish, bug fixes, and content before it's ready for full release. They suggest waiting for updates or sales, highlighting that the game feels unfinished in its current state. Some even state that the game should still be in early access.
- Game-breaking bugs present (weight 0.78): Some reviews mention game-breaking bugs that lead to frustration and refunds. While some bugs have workarounds or fixes, their initial presence significantly impacted the player experience.
- Appeals to fans of Stargate/Evil Genius (weight 0.23): A significant number of reviewers recommend the game to fans of specific franchises like Stargate, Evil Genius, Dungeon Keeper, and other base-building or sci-fi games. They feel the game captures the essence of these franchises, particularly Stargate, even without an official license.
- Worth the price, especially on sale (weight 0.11): Many reviewers find the game worth its current price, especially on sale, and some would even pay full price to support the developers. However, some reviewers suggest a maximum price point, indicating a perceived value ceiling.
- Specific mechanics need improvement (weight 0.1): Several reviews offer specific suggestions for improving game mechanics, such as adjusting patent mechanics, scientist utilization, squad movement, zone pricing, research trees, and financial systems. These suggestions aim to enhance gameplay balance and player experience.
- Game is currently broken (weight 0.01): This point is a very short statement that the game is broken. Due to the lack of specific details, this point has a low importance score.

Other player notes:
- Unremarkable graphics, audio, no voice-over (weight 0.06): The graphics are unremarkable, and the sound and music are functional but not noteworthy. There are no voice lines in the game.
- Poor explanations, requires multiple playthroughs (weight 0.05): The game's mechanics and universe are not always well-explained, requiring multiple playthroughs to fully understand. Initial runs are likely to be unsuccessful, requiring players to learn from tactical errors.
- Limited perspective, no direct exploration (weight 0.05): Players manage the Exogate Initiative from their base, sending teams to explore alien worlds. However, the player's perspective is limited to their base; they never visually experience the other worlds directly.
- Desire for roadmap/DLC (weight 0.03): Reviewers are interested in seeing a future roadmap for the game, including potential DLC.
- Developers are responsive (weight 0.02): The developers are responsive to player input and actively making fixes and changes.
- QoL issues need ironing out (weight 0.02): There are a lot of little QoL issues as well, but I expect those will be ironed out (I'm looking at you, guard posts and invasions).
- More exogate competitors suggested (weight 0.02): Reviewers suggest adding more exogate competitors to the game.
- Comic tone, some prefer serious (weight 0.02): The game's comic tone is similar to Theme Hospital, but some reviewers wished for a more serious tone.
- More equipment/payloads desired (weight 0.02): Reviewers wished for more equipment/team payloads instead of exosuit upgrades but understand the limitation.
- Mod support available (weight 0.02): The game has mod support.
- Income generation mechanics (weight 0.02): The game provides 50k per year through a committee, after which the player must generate income independently by developing theories from samples and patenting them.
- Potential review bombing (weight 0.01): Some reviewers noted bots spamming negative reviews, indicating a potential review bombing campaign. This reduces the reliability and constructiveness of those reviews.
