Common complaints:
- Numerous bugs and glitches (weight 0.28): The game suffers from numerous bugs and glitches, ranging from minor annoyances to game-breaking issues like falling through textures or quest progression halts. Many reviewers mention that the game feels unpolished and incomplete, with performance issues like lag and crashes. While some acknowledge the game is in Early Access, the severity and frequency of these issues significantly detract from the experience.
- Tedious grinding and progression (weight 0.18): The game's economy and progression are hindered by excessive grinding, especially in the early game, making it difficult to earn money and acquire resources. Many reviewers found the core gameplay loop repetitive and tedious, lacking engaging activities beyond basic resource gathering and crafting. The lack of clear direction and purpose further exacerbates the issue, leaving players feeling lost and aimless.
- Repetitive gameplay and content (weight 0.13): Reviewers frequently mention that the game becomes repetitive quickly, with limited music tracks, dialogue, and quests. This repetition leads to boredom and a lack of replayability, making the game feel like a chore after a relatively short amount of playtime. The limited content and repetitive tasks detract from the overall experience.
- Shallow villager personalities (weight 0.12): The villagers in the game are criticized for having limited and repetitive personalities and dialogue, making interactions feel shallow and unrewarding. Many reviewers express disappointment with the lack of character development and the inability to remove disliked villagers. The limited diversity in personalities and interactions detracts from the overall immersion and engagement with the game's social aspects.
- Lacking content and features (weight 0.09): The game is criticized for lacking sufficient content, including quests, features, and language support. Reviewers note the absence of multiplayer, fast travel, and key customization options, which limits the overall gameplay experience. As an Early Access title, the lack of content is a common concern, with many reviewers hoping for future updates to address these shortcomings.
- Limited villager control (weight 0.07): The villagers cannot be kicked out, limiting control over the village population. The villagers are passive and rely on the player to rebuild the entire island while they reap the rewards. The conversation patterns with villagers are limited, reducing the incentive to interact with them.
- Lacking polish and originality (weight 0.06): The game is criticized for lacking polish and originality, with underdeveloped storytelling, cliché NPCs, and simple sound effects. Reviewers found the game to be linear for an open-world title and lacking engaging elements like a compelling story or meaningful unlocks. The absence of a mini-map and a social component further detracts from the overall experience.
- Limited house customization (weight 0.04): The game lacks sufficient options for customizing the player's house and visiting residents' homes. Reviewers found the initial house choice difficult due to a lack of information and the inability to change it later. The limited exterior customization options and the inability to see how villagers have decorated their homes detract from the overall social and creative aspects of the game.
- Clunky character movement (weight 0.03): The character movement, particularly jumping, feels clunky and unresponsive. Reviewers describe the jumping as weightless and imprecise, making it difficult to control the character's landing. The awkwardness of the movement detracts from the overall fluidity and enjoyment of the gameplay experience.

Gameplay feedback:
- Extensive crafting and exploration loop (weight 0.3): The core gameplay loop revolves around exploration, resource gathering, and crafting to rebuild the town and attract tourists. Players explore islands and underwater ruins for materials and blueprints, using these to construct buildings, furniture, and tools. The crafting system is multi-staged, often requiring multiple machines and time.
- Island restoration and tourism focus (weight 0.14): Players focus on restoring and developing an island to attract tourists and new residents. This involves rebuilding structures, customizing the island with decorations, and recruiting castaways or critters to populate the town and work in shops. Storms reset resources and bring new opportunities.
- Town management and shop building (weight 0.08): Players construct and manage shops, assigning residents to jobs to generate revenue from tourists. Repairing buildings and improving the town's aesthetics are key to increasing tourist satisfaction and attracting more visitors. This creates a tycoon-style town-building aspect.
- Similar to other life sims (weight 0.06): The game shares similarities with other life simulation and town-building games like Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and My Time at Portia. Reviewers noted similar gameplay loops and mechanics, but also pointed out unique creative elements that distinguish it.
- Quest-driven gameplay (weight 0.05): The game features numerous quests, including story elements and radiant quests from town citizens. Quests often involve simple fetch tasks, guiding players through the game and helping them learn mechanics. However, some reviewers found the quests repetitive and lacking a central plot.
- Cooking and gardening mechanics (weight 0.05): Cooking and gardening are important mechanics, allowing players to manage stamina, health, and status effects. Players can experiment with recipes, grow crops, and assign residents to help with gardening. Cooking also allows for selling dishes to tourists.
- Focus on Critter Cove (weight 0.04): Critter Cove is the name of the island and town that players rebuild. The game focuses on building up Critter Cove, inviting critters to move in, and revitalizing its tourism industry. Inventory management is streamlined with connected chests throughout the town.
- Rescuing and helping animals (weight 0.03): Players can rescue animals and help them find homes and jobs in the town. Players can interact with town residents to increase their affinity, unlocking exclusive tasks and blueprints.
- Relaxed pacing and time progression (weight 0.02): The game allows players to sleep to progress time and complete crafting/building tasks faster. There isn't a bedtime mechanic that forces you to rush home while exploring, and the game allows players to decide what and when they want to do things.
- Stamina management required (weight 0.02): The game features a stamina system that depletes with activity, requiring players to eat, sleep, or rest to recover. Food and drinks restore stamina, health, and oxygen, encouraging players to manage their character's needs.
- Simple fishing mechanics (weight 0.02): Fishing is a relaxing activity where players click when a fish bites. However, some reviewers found it less exciting than fishing in other games like Animal Crossing, citing frequent misses and time-consuming attempts.

- NPC interaction bugs (weight 0.01): NPCs occasionally disappear after dialogue, or continue walking during conversations, causing the camera to follow them. These issues disrupt the flow of interactions and can be immersion-breaking.
- Minor texture and door bugs (weight 0.01): Some reviewers have reported minor, easily fixable texture bugs in character creation and issues with the store door closing too quickly. These are minor annoyances that do not significantly impact gameplay.
- Slowdown with many tourists (weight 0.01): Attracting a large number of tourists can cause performance slowdowns, particularly during their disembarkation. This suggests that the game struggles to handle a high volume of characters simultaneously.
