Info about Blood West:

Official game description:
Weird West legends meet eldritch horror in **BLOOD WEST**, an immersive stealth FPS. Become the Undead Gunslinger, doomed to roam the barren lands until he finds the means to purge their curse and free his soul. No, this isn’t your typical Wild West desperado redemption arc. This is a damnation arc.
The Canyons, the Swamp, and the Mountains. Each swarming with abominable monsters and unholy demons, these are open-ended worlds for you to explore freely at your own pace. It will take the player over 20 hours on average to complete all three scenarios, and over 35 if they want to see everything the barren lands have to offer.
**Blood West** is a stealth FPS inspired by the genre classics such as the Thief series (whose fans will be happy to hear the voice of Stephen Russell, the actor voicing the master-thief Garrett, returning here as the protagonist), S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, or - from the contemporary catalog - Hunt: Showdown. The gameplay rewards the careful approach: scouting the area, stalking your enemies, and striking from the shadows. Can you figure out a way to clear a fort full of ghouls and monsters without raising an alarm?
The Barren Lands present the player with a nightmarish, twisted vision of the Wild West legends. The curse that has befallen the realm has corrupted every living thing, defiled the land itself, while summoning restless spirits and dark entities. In this mixture of gunslinger pulp and Lovecraftian horror, dark occult magick presents just as much of a threat as sudden lead poisoning.
In **Blood West** you will meet many colorful, yet strangely twisted, fully-voiced NPCs. Just as much prisoners of the Barren Lands as you are, they will sometimes share their unusual stories and send you on various missions. Play nice and they might reward you or become your allies. Cross them and risk their wrath.
The game won’t hold your hand. You’ll have to explore the land for yourself (buying a map from a vendor might prove useful!), and figure out your own way to approach quests. As you poke around the three expansive maps, keep an eye out for hidden places and secret stashes. There’s gold in the mountains! Fair warning - it’s probably cursed.
If sneaking around isn’t exactly your thing, or you feel that you have a power advantage over your enemies, you can always take the head-on approach and meet your enemies guns blazing. **Blood West** comes from the creators of the fan-favorite boomer shooter **POSTAL: Brain Damaged**, so much gratuitous fantasy violence and pixelated blood splatter is to be expected!
One man’s hell might be another hoarder’s paradise! From simple one-use items like bandages, through medical tinctures, explosives and incendiaries, straight to arcane artifacts that - once slotted - can change the way you play the game, the Barren Lands are just filled with STUFF. There are tons of useful items to discover, and there’s a special player’s stash crate for all those super-rare potions that you’ll hoard and never use.
A gunslinger without a gun would be just a regular slinger. Where’s the fun in that? **Blood West** makes sure you’ll have plenty of weapons to choose from. Revolvers, rifles, shotguns, carabines - a great variety of firearms, from standard army-issue to those infused with powerful magic, or straight-up possessed. And if you prefer not to cause a ruckus, there’s a wide selection of hand-to-hand combat weapons and archery weapons to pick your favorites from.
The RPG-like perk-based progression system in **Blood West** will allow you to highly customize the gameplay experience to your liking. Become a stealthy hunter, a revolver-fanning gunman or a relentless berserker. You will gain experience and progress through the skill tree, while discovering new artifacts in each of the scenarios that will bestow on you additional abilities. Combining skills and load-out creates more possible playstyles than you’d normally be able to explore in one playthrough.
Are you ready to take back the frontier from the dark forces of demonic corruption and earn the right to move on to a better world? The Barren Lands call you, Gunslinger!

The game is often described as a surprising gem that provides significant value for its price and offers a satisfying experience from start to finish.
- Unique "Weird West" Aesthetic (weight 0.91): The game is highly praised for its distinctive retro-pixel art style, exceptional sound design, and immersive atmosphere that perfectly blends Wild West themes with gothic horror and Lovecraftian elements. This unique presentation creates a memorable and captivating world, often drawing comparisons to classic titles while standing out as an indie masterpiece.
- Rewarding Exploration & Level Design (weight 0.46): The game features thoughtfully designed, dense, and non-linear open-world maps across multiple chapters. Exploration is consistently rewarded with useful loot, secrets, and environmental storytelling, encouraging players to thoroughly investigate every corner.
- Deep Build Variety & Progression (weight 0.37): Players appreciate the extensive array of weapons, artifacts, and perk-based skill trees, which allow for diverse character builds and playstyles. This system fosters experimentation and significantly enhances replayability, letting players tailor their approach to combat.
- Dynamic Chapter Progression & DLC Value (weight 0.29): The game maintains freshness across its multiple chapters, each introducing new settings, enemies, and challenges. The DLC is also highly regarded for further expanding content with new mechanics, weapons, and more aggressive enemy types, adding significant value.
- Strong Immersive Sim Core (weight 0.28): The game excels as an immersive sim, integrating elements of survival horror, RPG, and tactical shooter genres into a cohesive experience. The core loop of resource management, strategic combat, and character progression is addictive, often drawing comparisons to titles like STALKER and Thief.
- Visceral & Satisfying Gunplay (weight 0.2): The game delivers impactful and enjoyable gunplay, with weapons feeling weighty and distinct. Gun sounds are praised for their quality, contributing to a satisfying shooting experience where every shot feels meaningful.
- Creative & Varied Monster Design (weight 0.12): The game features a diverse bestiary with unique, gruesome, and memorable creature designs. Each monster often requires specific tactical approaches, contributing to varied gameplay and enhancing the horror atmosphere.
- Engaging & Unobtrusive Narrative (weight 0.12): The story is well-paced and intriguing, often conveyed through environmental details and character interactions rather than intrusive exposition. It successfully builds lore and maintains player interest without overshadowing the core gameplay.

Common complaints:
- Tedious, repetitive core gameplay. (weight 0.88): Players consistently report that the game's core loop, characterized by respawning enemies, endless fetch quests, and uninspired level design, quickly becomes monotonous. This leads to frequent backtracking and a feeling that progress is a chore rather than enjoyable exploration.
- Unfairly punishing difficulty. (weight 0.82): The game is frequently described as unforgiving, especially in the early stages, with high enemy damage and scarce resources. A significant pain point is the death mechanic, which applies stacking debuffs and incurs costly removals, heavily penalizing experimentation and leading to frustrating death spirals.
- Unengaging story and characters. (weight 0.74): The game's plot is frequently described as minimal, uninventive, and lacking depth, often feeling like a mere vehicle for traversing levels. Characters are underdeveloped, and repetitive 'fetch quests' constitute much of the side content, contributing to an overall unrewarding progression system.
- Inconsistent boss encounters. (weight 0.63): Player feedback on boss fights is polarized; some found them too easy, boring, and forgettable, often defeating them on the first try, while others described specific bosses (e.g., Chapter 2) as frustratingly difficult or poorly designed. This indicates a lack of consistent challenge and quality in boss encounter design.
- Quality drops in later chapters. (weight 0.61): The game's chapter-based progression system forces players to advance after boss fights, often preventing the completion of previous content and leaving side quests unfinished. This structural flaw contributes to a noticeable drop in content quality, polish, and narrative engagement in later chapters, particularly Acts 2 and 3.
- Unpolished visuals and performance. (weight 0.57): The retro-pixelated art style is often perceived as visually unappealing, making environments too dark and hindering visibility, especially at night. Furthermore, the game suffers from poor optimization, leading to low frame rates and technical issues despite its simplistic graphics.
- Flawed stealth and combat. (weight 0.56): Both stealth and direct combat systems are criticized for significant flaws. Stealth is often inconsistent or too easily cheesed by simple enemy AI, while gunplay is clunky and overly reliant on precise headshots with poor hit detection, making open combat frustrating. Melee combat and stamina systems also feel underdeveloped and unresponsive.
- Limited weapon variety and ammo. (weight 0.49): Players note a lack of diverse weapons, with many feeling uninspired or similar. This is compounded by issues with ammo management, including scarcity and limited weapon slots, which restricts strategic choice and forces players into repetitive grinding.
- Poor inventory and UI design. (weight 0.15): The inventory system is widely criticized for being tedious, with a 'Tetris' style, lack of hotkeys, and no game pause, forcing awkward management during tense moments. This, combined with unintuitive UI elements and a lack of 'quality of life' features like a 'sell all junk' button, significantly disrupts gameplay flow.

Gameplay feedback:
- Stealth-focused, deliberate combat (weight 0.51): The game strongly emphasizes a stealth-first approach, especially in early chapters, utilizing line-of-sight mechanics and one-shot melee takedowns. While direct combat is possible, it is slower and more tactical than traditional FPS games, often requiring precise headshots due to limited resources and high enemy lethality. However, late-game progression can make aggressive gunplay more viable.
- Deep RPG and resource management (weight 0.26): The game features robust RPG elements, including XP-based leveling, a perk system for playstyle customization, and equipable artifacts that provide unique bonuses and penalties. A critical aspect of survival is the grid-based inventory system, reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 or STALKER, which necessitates constant scavenging and careful management of scarce ammo, health, and other vital resources.
- Segmented open-world exploration (weight 0.25): The game is structured into three distinct chapters, each featuring its own large, semi-open map or biome that encourages extensive exploration for quests, secrets, and resources. While the main story can be completed relatively quickly by focusing solely on objectives, full exploration of each map significantly extends playtime. Enemies partially respawn upon player death or resting, offering opportunities for farming.
- Punishing death and curse system (weight 0.18): The game incorporates a 'Souls-like' death mechanic where each death incurs stacking debuffs, or 'curses,' impacting player stats like stamina or HP. These curses can only be removed through specific items or quests. While players retain all loot upon revival at a safe zone, a portion of previously defeated enemies respawn, adding a persistent challenge.

Performance notes:
- Diverse Gameplay and System Bugs (weight 0.05): Players have encountered multiple bugs, including unresponsive stashes with many items, audio settings not saving, and enemies being silent until visible. More critical issues include a bug preventing merchants from selling ammo, enemies losing the ability to leave spawn points, and a specific 'Perforated heart' artifact causing unremovable bleeding. The choppy rendering issue was reportedly fixed, indicating a past significant bug.
- Limited Graphics and Display Options (weight 0.03): Players note the game's graphics appear dated, resembling those from the mid-2000s. There's a desire for more granular graphics options to disable, and issues exist with mouse focus on multi-monitor setups. Enabling V-sync is also recommended by a player to prevent stuttering.
- Gamepad Controls Not Ideal (weight 0.02): While the game supports gamepads, players found them less suitable for the game's difficulty. This suggests that a keyboard and mouse is the preferred and more effective input method for many, impacting controller-only players.

Recommendations:
- Highly Recommended Experience (weight 0.49): Players overwhelmingly recommend the game, praising its value, encouraging purchase at full or sale price, and expressing strong eagerness for sequels or DLC. Many give it high ratings (e.g., 9/10, 10/10) and consider it an underrated indie gem worth playing multiple times.
- Appeals to Niche Genres (weight 0.23): The game is strongly recommended for fans of specific genres and gameplay styles, including stealth FPS, immersive sims, survival horror, exploration, resource management, and the 'Weird West' setting. Comparisons to STALKER, Hunt: Showdown, Thief, and Deus Ex are common indicators of its target audience.
- Mixed Reception and Nuance (weight 0.21): Some players advise against the game, citing issues with difficulty or poor design, or even suggesting alternative games. Others offer conflicted recommendations, advising low expectations, or only recommending it on sale, contributing to a somewhat divisive overall impression.
- Persistence Rewards Patience (weight 0.05): Reviewers suggest that the game improves significantly after the initial hours or first map. They advise players to persist through the beginning stages to fully appreciate the adventure and its unfolding story.
- Expect Significant Challenge (weight 0.03): Players note the game's high and escalating difficulty, particularly in later chapters, with some comparing its intensity to 'Elden Ring.' It is recommended for those who enjoy punishing and challenging experiences, often suggesting starting on harder difficulties.

Other player notes:
- Varied Playtime & Pacing (weight 0.16): The game offers highly variable playtime, ranging from 15-20 hours for a focused playthrough to over 30-70 hours for extensive exploration and side quests. Some players find the initial chapters, particularly Chapter 1, to be very expansive and slow-paced, which can be challenging for those expecting a quicker experience.
- Demand for Future Content & Features (weight 0.15): There is a strong desire for more content, including additional DLCs, New Game Plus, and new difficulty options like hardcore or survival modes. Players are eager for more maps and appreciate the developers' ongoing support and planned updates, indicating high engagement and a desire to extend the gameplay experience.
- Strong Developer/Publisher Reputation (weight 0.09): The game benefits from the positive reputation of its publisher, New Blood Interactive, who is known for consistently releasing quality indie titles. This esteem often influences purchase decisions and fosters trust among players for continued support and future projects.
- Varied Initial Player Experiences (weight 0.07): Players often bought the game on discount or in bundles, sometimes refunding it initially due to unmet expectations or early game pacing challenges. A small, less constructive point regarding character design and developer understanding of games was also noted, but with very low significance.
- Distinct Retro Visual Style (weight 0.06): The game features a unique, stylized retro visual aesthetic, often described as low-res or low-poly. This distinct art style, combined with its 'weird west' and stealth horror atmosphere, is charming to many players and is seen as a key part of the game's identity.
- Enhance Enemy Variety & AI (weight 0.02): Players desire more diverse enemy behaviors and designs to enrich gameplay. Suggestions include minor reworks to basic enemies, offering more openings for stealth, and implementing randomized or Souls-like respawn systems to improve replayability and dynamic challenges.

Emotions:
- Satisfaction (weight 0.7): Players felt satisfied by the game's high overall quality, engaging gameplay, and immersive design, including versatile combat, rewarding exploration, and atmospheric elements. This was further enhanced by the game's value for money, diverse mechanics, and the sense of accomplishment gained from mastering its challenges after an initial learning curve.
- Excitement (weight 0.27): Excitement stemmed from the game's unique blend of mechanics, high overall quality, and the thrill of discovering it as a 'hidden gem.' Players were also excited by the anticipation of future content, sequels, and the game's challenging yet fun gameplay, including its build variety and intense moments.
- Disappointment (weight 0.26): Disappointment arose from the game's linearity, repetitive content, and perceived poor execution of core mechanics like stealth and gunplay. Players also cited unsatisfying boss fights, unfulfilled potential, and a decline in quality in later acts or DLC as sources of this emotion.
- Frustration (weight 0.25): Frustration was primarily caused by the game's high difficulty, punishing death mechanics, and restrictive save system, which often led to lost progress. Clunky controls, inconsistent enemy AI, inventory management issues, and game-breaking bugs also significantly contributed to player frustration.

Many found pure delight in playing a good, affordable game that perfectly matched their preferences, leading to an amazing experience.
- Appreciation (weight 0.06): Players appreciated the developers' attention to detail, continuous improvements, and the game's lack of major bugs. The unique design choices, rich world-building, and thoughtful guidance, along with the game's ability to evoke an 'old school' experience, fostered a strong sense of appreciation.
- Admiration (weight 0.04): Admiration was directed towards the game's master-class design, immaculate atmosphere, and unique mechanics, especially for an indie title. Players highly praised the developers' passion, their engine, and the game's ability to challenge and reward careful play, solidifying its status as an immersive sim masterpiece.
- Surprise (weight 0.04): Players were surprised by the game exceeding initial expectations, often finding it to be unexpectedly good, deep, and challenging despite initial impressions. Many were also pleasantly surprised by the game's true genre differing from what they anticipated, such as being a survival RPG or a stealth-focused experience rather than a 'boomer shooter'.
- Challenge (weight 0.03): The game's high difficulty, brutal and unforgiving nature, and demanding combat were the primary causes of this emotion. Players appreciated the requirement for strategic thinking, careful sneaking, and resource management, where mistakes were heavily punished but overcoming them was rewarding.
- Amusement (weight 0.03): Amusement stemmed from quirky and humorous gameplay moments, such as specific in-game interactions, clever comparisons to other titles, or unconventional playstyles. The game's B-movie aesthetics and unique descriptions also contributed to a lighthearted and entertaining experience.
- Anger (weight 0.03): Anger was caused by perceived poor design choices, game-breaking bugs, and an overall lack of development quality, particularly in later chapters. Players felt angry about unfulfilled promises, unfair mechanics, and the game not working correctly despite being paid for, sometimes leading to feelings of being 'scammed'.
- Love (weight 0.03): Players expressed intense love for the game's overall experience, unique occult Western setting, and successful blend of genres. This affection was often rooted in its immersive qualities, challenging gameplay, and strong resemblance to other beloved titles, leading to a profound personal connection.
- Desire (weight 0.02): Desire focused on wanting more content, such as sequels, DLC, or a New Game Plus mode, to further enhance the experience. Players also expressed a desire for specific features like more relic slots, difficulty options, a manual save system, or better accessibility for less skilled players.

Players displayed a strong desire for others to purchase the game and eagerly anticipated future content, expressing high ratings across all game aspects.

- Anticipation (weight 0.02): Anticipation primarily revolved around future content, including DLC, sequels, and new chapters from the developers. Players eagerly awaited language updates and the full release, looking forward to further lore and series development.
- Nostalgia (weight 0.02): Nostalgia was evoked by the game's resemblance to old high-quality games, its retro graphics, and an overall 'old school' feel. The aesthetic and theme often reminded players of classic 90s gaming experiences or beloved titles like DarkWatch and Lucas Arts' 'Outlaws'.

- Engagement (weight 0.02): Players felt engaged due to the game's compelling gameplay, captivating world, and suspenseful exploration, particularly in early chapters. The addictive nature of the repetitive gameplay loop and the ability to get 'hooked' and lose track of time contributed significantly to this feeling.}
