Info about Scarlet Deer Inn:

Official game description:
**Works great on Steam Deck!**
------------------------------
We're still waiting for Valve to officially verify Scarlet Deer Inn, but we designed the game to work well on it.
**ABOUT**
Scarlet Deer Inn is an embroidered dark medieval folk tale. While life in a seemingly ordinary village is all about simple chores and idle gossip, sinister secrets hide below.
* Beautiful hand-painted backgrounds and traditional animations crafted from physically embroidered frames.
* A world filled with colourful characters.
* Hidden shortcuts in the dark that make each playthrough easier.
* Folk music inspired by the Middle Ages and performed on traditional instruments.
**THE STORY**
Elise is a mother of two. She is not exactly extraordinary, and there are no heroic epics written about her.
Her circumstances will force her to explore unusual places and face dark, terrifying situations.
**THE TEAM**
Attu Games is a husband-and-wife team from the Czech Republic. During the development of Scarlet Deer Inn, their duo expanded into a trio with the birth of their baby, bringing a whole new level of chaos to the process.

- Hardware Profile: No data
Feature extractions:
- Community Price:
  - Community fair range: $10.00 - $15.00
  - Reasoning: Multiple reviews indicate the game is considered overpriced at $19.99 given its short length (around 4 hours). One reviewer explicitly notes that some would say it's not worth $20, while another states it is not worth the value. This suggests the community perceives a fair price below $20, likely in the $10-$15 range, balancing the positive story with limited gameplay.
- Playtime Metrics:
  - Game completion: 4.0h
  - Story completion: 3.5h
  - Session length: 4.0h

Story completion aligns with these totals, as reviews describe finishing the story within that timeframe. One review explicitly mentions playing in a single 4-hour session, supporting session length. No reliable evidence exists for endgame playtime beyond achievement hunting, which is not quantified in hours.

Below are summaries of things people say about the game per category.
Each point is assigned a weight that represents how often it is mentioned across all reviews.
What players like:
- Excellent soundtrack and music (weight 0.92): The soundtrack is described as incredible, superb, fantastic, and exceptional, with the dynamic nature and folk influences being especially celebrated. Together with the art, the audio creates a memorable audiovisual experience.
- Beautiful graphics overall (weight 0.78): Many reviews mention the attractive, painting-like graphics, lovely visuals, and gorgeous environments. The color palette and contrasts are also highlighted as amazing and pleasing.
- Stunning embroidered art style (weight 0.71): Players consistently praise the hand-embroidered character sprites and watercolor backgrounds, calling them unique, beautiful, and extremely cool. This visual approach is the most frequently highlighted feature of the game.
- Unique and experimental design (weight 0.6): Players appreciate the game for being different, original, and experimental, noting its charm, personality, and unique animation. The embroidered sprites and painted environments create a distinct identity.
- Slavic folklore theme (weight 0.2): The exploration of Slavic folklore is found engaging and adds depth to the game's world. This cultural setting is a notable draw for many players.
- Solid level design (weight 0.2): Levels are described as well executed and well designed, contributing positively to the gameplay experience.
- No technical bugs (weight 0.2): A few reviews report experiencing no bugs or technical issues, indicating a polished release.
- Lovely characters and charm (weight 0.18): Characters are described as having a lot of charm and personality, making them endearing to players.

Common complaints:
- Game is too short (weight 0.92): Multiple players report very short playtimes of 3-4 hours, feeling the content does not justify the price. The game is padded with fetch quests, making the short length feel worse.
- Checkpoint issues frustrate players (weight 0.86): Checkpoints fail to save progress properly, causing respawns at dead ends or requiring restarts from the beginning. One-hit deaths and awkward checkpoints lead to excessive trial and error.
- Bugs cause softlocks (weight 0.81): Several softlock bugs prevent progression, including early in the cave, after a ladder, and at a bridge. Losing 4 hours of progress due to a bug makes the game unplayable for some.
- Navigation lacks map and guidance (weight 0.8): The game has no map or mini-map, making underground and cellar navigation very frustrating. Lack of quest markers or hints leads to confusion and getting stuck for long periods.
- Story and tone are misleading (weight 0.68): The game was expected to be a story or Inn management game but turned into a horror platformer. The plot relies on fetch quests, has an abrupt ending, and uses disturbing feudal elements.
- Price too high for content (weight 0.56): At $20, players feel the 2.6-4 hour playtime and lack of depth offer poor value. Suggested price is around €15, as the game feels like a Flash game in structure.
- Game feels unpolished overall (weight 0.54): Many cite the game as unfinished or like a scam, with unplaytested segments, no difficulty settings, and no ultrawide support. Visual effects linger during respawn, and there is no brightness adjustment.
- Difficulty spikes and frustration (weight 0.52): Boss battles are notably harder than the rest of the game, with one-hit kills and Elden Ring-style difficulty that frustrates average players. Trial and error is common due to lack of hints.
- Torch mechanic disrupts exploration (weight 0.44): The torch mechanic punishes exploration because it extinguishes too fast, forcing one-life runs. Torch passing is not fun, and there is no satisfaction after passing the fire.
- Platforming is mediocre and buggy (weight 0.42): Platforming sections are moderately annoying, with iffy wall climbing and touchy hitboxes. Controls are not on par with other cinematic platformers, causing cheap trial and error.
- Gameplay lacks depth (weight 0.41): Overall gameplay is simplistic with light puzzles, fetch quests, and no depth. The game design treats exploration as the core but punishes it with the torch mechanic.
- Missing quality-of-life features (weight 0.31): There are no highlight prompts for interactive items, no quest list, and no way to load earlier checkpoints. This makes the game unnecessarily difficult.
- Combat is underwhelming (weight 0.29): Combat mechanics are terrible with poor enemy feedback, and bosses die in three hits. The combat feels unpolished and not challenging enough.
- Missing translation and localization issues (weight 0.28): The Simplified Chinese translation is full of errors and inappropriate content. There is no glossary for Slavic folklore, and no voice acting is present.
- Achievements and soundtrack issues (weight 0.23): Missing achievements after continuing from demo and not enough achievements overall. Players are curious about soundtrack lyrics but none are provided.
- Some sections feel padded (weight 0.18): Certain sections, especially towards the end, are overly long and feel like forced stretching. Backtracking with the torch adds to the padding.
- Better alternatives suggested (weight 0.11): Players note that for a difficulty-focused audience, better alternatives like Hollow Knight, Celeste, or Ori exist. This game does not compete well.

Gameplay feedback:
- Platformer with puzzle elements (weight 0.44): The game combines platforming and puzzle-solving, including walking segments and simple puzzles, with some trial-and-error sections. This core gameplay loop is noted by multiple feedback clusters.
- No map or guidance system (weight 0.39): Players note the absence of a map, mini-map, or quest markers, requiring them to find their own way through the environment. This may lead to aimless exploration.
- Dark medieval Slavic theme (weight 0.33): The game features a hand-painted dark medieval aesthetic inspired by Slavic folklore, with a story that shifts from cute to creepy. This unique theme is highlighted in reviews.
- Simple gameplay with backtracking (weight 0.29): The gameplay is described as simple, with backtracking and small combat encounters. This may appeal to casual players but could feel repetitive.
- Short game duration (weight 0.29): Multiple reviews mention the game's short length, estimating a playtime of 3 to 5 hours. This brevity may affect player satisfaction depending on expectations.
- 2D platforming and exploration (weight 0.29): The game is described as a 2D platformer with exploration elements, including object collection and navigation through environments. This is a broadly recognized aspect of the experience.
- Torch mechanic requires light (weight 0.28): A core mechanic involves using a torch to light the environment, as players take damage when in darkness. This adds tension to platforming and exploration.
- Limited dialogue and narrative (weight 0.21): The game features limited dialogue but is linear with many interactions, including conversations that trigger events. The narrative is woven into the platforming.
- Chase sequences with restart penalty (weight 0.18): Chase areas require precise jumping and restart from the beginning on failure, which can be frustrating. This mechanic contributes to the game's difficulty.
- Checkpoint and save issues (weight 0.18): The checkpoint system is reported to have rough edges, and save points are infrequent. This can lead to repeated sections after failures.
- High difficulty in mine area (weight 0.18): The mine area is specifically noted for high difficulty, involving finding the right path and platforming challenges. This area may be a common point of frustration.
- Sneak and lever mechanics (weight 0.16): Players encounter sneak and lever mechanics, though lever interaction can sometimes cause death. This adds variety to the gameplay.
- Trial and error gameplay (weight 0.1): The game features trial-and-error sections, particularly in platforming and puzzles, where players must learn from repeated attempts. This can be rewarding or tedious.
- Optional waypoint system (weight 0.09): An optional way-point system is available, but its absence by default contributes to the lack of guidance. This feature may be overlooked by some players.
- Embroidered animation style (weight 0.09): The game features a unique embroidered animation style, contributing to its artisan feel. This aesthetic is noted as a standout element.
- Demo available for testing (weight 0.09): A demo is available, allowing players to try the game before purchase. This is a positive aspect for potential buyers.
- New mechanics dosed throughout (weight 0.09): New mechanics are gradually introduced over the course of the game, keeping the experience fresh. This pacing is appreciated.
- Section length issues (weight 0.09): Some sections (levels) may have length issues, possibly being too long or short for the content. This can affect pacing.
- Cinematic platformer style (weight 0.09): The game is described as a cinematic platformer with narrative-driven segments. This style aligns with its story shift and visual design.
- Bridge sequence with boulder (weight 0.09): A specific bridge sequence involves a boulder and weak floors, adding a puzzle-like challenge. This is a memorable gameplay moment.

- Niche audience recommendations (weight 0.39): Several reviewers recommend the game to specific audiences, such as fans of medieval fantasy, Slavic folklore, or pure gaming experiences. This suggests the game has targeted appeal rather than universal appeal.
- Wait for a sale (weight 0.29): Several reviewers advise interested players to wait for a sale before purchasing, indicating that while the game has appeal, its full price may not be justified for everyone. This caution suggests value concerns.

- Negative value assessment (weight 0.22): Some reviewers strongly advise against buying, calling the game a scam or not worth the price. They suggest a lower price point or note that the game lacks a proper ending, indicating perceived poor value.
- Mediocre gameplay noted (weight 0.18): One reviewer recommends the game despite mediocre platforming, while another notes the unique contrast and effort but with mixed gameplay. This indicates that gameplay quality may be a weak point.
- Game-breaking bug (weight 0.13): One reviewer cannot recommend the game due to a critical game-breaking bug and would only recommend if it is fixed. This represents a major issue that directly impacts playability.
- Try the demo first (weight 0.1): One reviewer specifically recommends trying the demo if players are unsure, implying the game may not suit all tastes and a hands-on trial is advisable. This reflects potential niche appeal.
