Translation Issue
=================
Regarding the translation quality issue raised by some investigators before,
we understand that for a story-driven game, translation quality directly affects immersion in the game.
Therefore, starting from July this year, we have hired a professional translation team to refine the game text translations.
Currently, "Moonshade Monolith" and "Far Hope Park" have been implemented. By the end of December, we will launch refined translations for "All-in-One and One-in-All" as well as "Lies and Fraud," gradually replacing our initial poor translations.
About the Game
==============
**"Depersonalization" is a role-playing game based on the Cthulhu Mythos.**
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the game, you will find yourself in a timeless library beyond the river of time. As the creation of Yog-Sothoth and the embodiment of Her will—the Star Key, you will cross the Gate on Her behalf to various worlds to mend shattered timelines.
Currently, the game has successfully launched 4 exploration modules, 1 text module, 1 rules module, and the highly anticipated large module "Cursenday's Black Carnival", with a total game text volume accumulated to 450,000 words.
Moreover, the game's main interface features a creation mode, allowing players to use the editor to create and publish original modules.
**This is a game that captures the essence of the Cthulhu Mythos and tabletop role-playing.**
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In each module, you will play as an investigator, collecting clues, rolling dice for success in checks, triggering events, and gradually approaching (or distancing yourself from) the truth of the story. If you are a novice player, "Depersonalization" can help you quickly familiarize yourself with the tabletop role-playing process and experience the unique joy of randomness.
Our story draws inspiration from the Cthulhu Mythos, which may be bizarre, thrilling, and intriguing, but it is not solely designed to bring about fear.
To uncover the truth, sometimes perhaps... any means are justified?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You can bribe, steal, trade, or appease the characters in the story, and the different actions you take will lead the story to different directions.
Why must victory be achieved through combat? Try stealth, delivering a fatal blow to the target, or using intimidation to make the target flee.
If you learn some forbidden knowledge, magic will be the key to defeating your enemies.(But there might be additional side effects (lmao), so use it cautiously!)
This is a game that emphasizes collectible content.
---------------------------------------------------
Our collectible content includes module endings, character traits, spells, companions, and mythos items.
Exploring forbidden knowledge in the modules will allow your investigator character to harness the power to cast spells.
Throughout the story, you will encounter many new characters and unlock their unique stories. As the story progresses, they will become your companions, standing by your side and fighting with you.
Additionally, each story hides unique mythos items. Collecting and skillfully using these items will bring extraordinary power-ups to your character.
Each module has different endings, and once you achieve these endings, all your characters can inherit these experiences, thus unlocking exclusive collectible content unique to that ending.
Your investigator character will undergo unique adventures, and these experiences will transform into traits, granting your character special abilities.
This is also a story creation platform.
---------------------------------------
The game features a powerful story editor, allowing creators the freedom to craft all content within the game.
If you are passionate about writing, you can use the editor to create text modules in the style of visual novels.
If you are skilled at building game mechanics, then crafting rules-based modules will be an excellent way to showcase your design talents.
If you yearn to create a more free and open game world, then making exploration modules will fulfill that desire.
Currently, there are over 50 playable modules available in the Workshop, and regular module co-creation events are being held on an ongoing basis!

Players familiar with COC will find the game easy to get into. Some reviewers consider it a successful attempt to replicate the COC system in a tabletop RPG format.

Common complaints:
- Inadequate save system and bugs (weight 0.72): The game's save system is flawed, with issues such as autosave overwrites, lack of manual save options, save failures, and loss of progress due to crashes. This leads to frustration, especially in a game that encourages multiple playthroughs to explore different endings. The lack of quick save/load functionality and the inability to manage save files in-game further exacerbate these problems.
- Poor translation quality and consistency (weight 0.67): The game suffers from significant translation issues across multiple languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. These issues range from machine translation errors and untranslated text to grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, hindering story comprehension and immersion. The developers acknowledge these issues and are reportedly working on improvements, but the current state detracts significantly from the player experience.
- Inconsistent and frustrating difficulty (weight 0.65): The game's difficulty is inconsistent and often frustrating, with unbalanced combat encounters and a reliance on luck. Boss battles can be particularly challenging, sometimes resulting in one-shot kills. The game's mechanics can feel punishing rather than rewarding, leading to a tedious and unenjoyable experience.
- Weak and confusing writing (weight 0.62): Several reviewers criticize the game's writing quality, describing the plot as weak, nonsensical, and poorly paced. Dialogue is often unnatural, lengthy, and difficult to follow, with some reviewers comparing it unfavorably to low-quality web novels. The narrative can be confusing and disjointed, making it difficult for players to become invested in the story.
- Lacks tabletop RPG freedom/atmosphere (weight 0.48): Many reviewers feel the game fails to capture the essence of a true tabletop RPG experience, particularly Call of Cthulhu. It is criticized for being too linear, lacking player freedom and meaningful choices, and overemphasizing combat. Some also feel that the game's Cthulhu theme is undermined by anime-style elements and a generic plot.
- Unintuitive UI and control issues (weight 0.15): The game suffers from UI and control issues, including an awkward interface, unintuitive design, and control problems with both keyboard/mouse and gamepad. These issues make navigation and interaction cumbersome, detracting from the overall player experience. Controller support is particularly lacking, with many bugs and unresponsive controls.
- Weak social elements/multiplayer (weight 0.07): The game's social elements are weak, with a lack of interaction between teammates and a limited sense of community. The absence of a multiplayer mode is a significant drawback for many players, particularly those seeking a tabletop RPG-like experience. Some reviewers also criticize the game's anime-style character designs.
- Underdeveloped investigation mechanics (weight 0.07): The investigation and reasoning aspects of the game feel underdeveloped, with a lack of depth and player agency. The impact of early-game investigations on combat is minimal, making thorough exploration feel less rewarding. The linear progression and abrupt endings of some storylines can also be anticlimactic.

Gameplay feedback:
- Streamlined Call of Cthulhu adaptation (weight 0.29): The game adapts the Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG ruleset, simplifying it for video game format. Key mechanics like dice rolls, skill checks, and sanity are present, but with adjustments to streamline gameplay and reduce player frustration. This makes it accessible to newcomers while retaining the essence of the original TRPG.
- Modular, branching story structure (weight 0.26): The game is structured around self-contained story modules, each offering unique narratives and multiple endings. These modules can be replayed, and some progress carries over between them, adding replayability and a sense of long-term character development. The game also supports user-created modules, expanding the available content.
- Meaningful character creation system (weight 0.09): Character creation is a significant element, influencing gameplay through stats, traits, and flaws. These attributes affect available actions and dialogue options, creating a personalized experience. However, some reviews suggest that character creation is combat-focused, potentially unbalancing other roles.
- More like CRPG than TRPG (weight 0.07): Many reviewers compare the game to other genres, particularly CRPGs and JRPGs, noting that it feels more like these than a true tabletop RPG simulation. This suggests that while it incorporates TRPG elements, it leans towards a more traditional video game experience.
- Mystery-solving and investigation focus (weight 0.06): The game involves solving mysteries by gathering clues and making choices in different timelines. Players create investigators and explore scenarios, often encountering Lovecraftian creatures. The gameplay emphasizes reading, investigation, and understanding the clues to reach the correct ending.
- Strategic, turn-based combat system (weight 0.05): Combat is turn-based and involves strategic decision-making, considering enemy resistances and character skills. Players manage health and sanity while utilizing action points for attacks and defense. Some reviews highlight the potential for powerful team compositions and open-ended combat scenarios.
- User-generated content via editor (weight 0.03): The game includes a content editor, allowing players to create and share their own scenarios. This fosters community co-creation and increases replayability. The level editor is reported to be fairly easy to use.
- Significant reliance on luck/RNG (weight 0.02): Luck and random number generation (RNG) play a significant role in the game. While strategic builds can mitigate some of the randomness, save-scumming is also an option to manipulate outcomes. This reliance on luck can be both a positive and negative aspect of the gameplay experience.
- Acceptable balance, limited exploration (weight 0.02): The game limits the number of locations that can be visited in a day through action points. The balance between combat, exploration, and rewards is generally considered acceptable, catering to different playstyles.
- Underutilized sanity system (weight 0.01): The sanity system is present, but some reviewers feel it could be better utilized. They don't experience a strong sense of fear or dread related to losing sanity, suggesting the mechanic may not be fully realized.

Performance notes:
- Good optimization, smooth performance (weight 0.02): The game is generally well-optimized and runs smoothly on a variety of hardware, including lower-end PCs. Some players specifically noted good performance on the ROG Ally and older GPUs.
- Linux/Steam Deck loading issue (weight 0.01): Some Linux/Steam Deck users have reported an infinite loading screen issue when using non-experimental Proton versions. This issue may be specific to these platforms.
- Large save file sizes (weight 0.01): Save file sizes are exceptionally large, reaching several gigabytes. This could be a concern for players with limited storage space or those who frequently back up their saves.
- SSD improves loading times (weight 0.01): Moving the game to an SSD can resolve loading issues. This suggests that the game benefits from faster storage speeds.
- Laggy creation mode (weight 0.01): The game's creation mode suffers from lag. This impacts the user experience when creating content.
- Inventory interface bugs (weight 0.01): Minor bugs are present in the inventory interface. This negatively impacts the user experience.

They anticipate new modules, story expansions, and features like multiplayer. Continuous support and content are expected to improve the overall experience.
- Good entry point for TRPGs (weight 0.55): The game is frequently recommended as a good entry point for players new to tabletop RPGs, especially those interested in the Cthulhu mythos. It's also suggested for experienced TRPG players seeking a solo experience. However, some warn that it may not fully replicate the traditional tabletop experience.
- Good value for the price (weight 0.37): Many reviewers find the game enjoyable and recommend it, often citing its reasonable price and the amount of content offered. Some suggest purchasing it on sale. The game is considered a good value for the money.

Reviewers also suggest improvements to the mobile experience and accessibility features. Faster updates and more content are desired.

Other player notes:
- Lovecraftian setting, adapted elements (weight 0.05): The game is inspired by the Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG and incorporates Lovecraftian elements. However, some reviewers note that certain mythos entities are personified in ways that deviate from their original counterparts. The game also features gender-swapped Lovecraft characters.
- Long-term development and support (weight 0.03): The developers are committed to long-term development with ongoing updates and future DLC. Official Japanese language support is planned, and the game already includes built-in Chinese language support. Weekly work reports are provided on Discord, indicating continuous development efforts.
- Initial Chinese language barrier (weight 0.03): The game is developed in China, and some players have encountered a Chinese language barrier upon initial launch. While user-created patches exist to address this, they may be incomplete. Additionally, a significant portion of the content available on the Steam Workshop is currently in Chinese.
- Need for market research, staffing (weight 0.02): Reviewers suggest that the developers should collect and analyze data to better understand their target audience and market size. They also recommend hiring more people to increase productivity and address the game's shortcomings and content gaps. The developers should consider feedback from negative reviews.
- Anime-styled pixel art aesthetic (weight 0.02): The game features an anime-styled pixel art style. Some reviewers appreciate the "waifuization" (娘化) of characters, finding it a suitable approach given the limitations of the pixel art style for depicting monsters. The art style was the first thing that caught the attention of some reviewers.
- Request: character relationship diagram (weight 0.01): Players request the addition of a character relationship diagram in the clue inspection interface. This would help them keep track of the many characters encountered throughout the game. This feature would improve the player's ability to follow the narrative and understand character connections.
- Read-only bug feedback option (weight 0.01): The developers held a poll on QQ to gather feedback. The game has a bug feedback option in the menu that links to a Tencent document, but it's read-only, making it impossible for players to provide feedback. This limits the ability of players to report bugs and contribute to the game's improvement.
- Music is good, needs variety (weight 0.01): The game's music is considered good or adequate by reviewers. Some suggest that there is potential for more variety in the future. While the music is not a major point of criticism, it is not a standout feature either.
- Abstract, character-locked achievements (weight 0.01): The game has a lot of achievements. However, their trigger conditions are too abstract and mostly locked to old characters, making it hard to get achievements with new characters. This makes it difficult for players to complete the game's achievements.
- Passionate team, design shortcomings (weight 0.01): The development team has passion but lacks understanding of game design. The reviewer is curious about the size of the development team. This suggests that the game's design could be improved with more experienced game designers.
- Suitable for teens and adults (weight 0.01): The game is suitable for teens and adults. This suggests that the game's content is not appropriate for young children. The game's themes and mechanics are geared towards an older audience.
- Reviewer background information (weight 0): These points are about the reviewers themselves and their backgrounds, not about the game. Therefore, they are not included in the summary.
