About the Game
==============
DEATHLOOP is a next-gen first person shooter from Arkane Lyon, the award-winning studio behind Dishonored. In DEATHLOOP, two rival assassins are trapped in a mysterious timeloop on the island of Blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity. As Colt, the only chance for escape is to end the cycle by assassinating eight key targets before the day resets. Learn from each cycle - try new paths, gather intel, and find new weapons and abilities. Do whatever it takes to break the loop.
If At First You Don’t Succeed... Die, Die Again
-----------------------------------------------
Every new loop is an opportunity to change things up. Use the knowledge you gain from each attempt to change up your playstyle, stealthily sneaking through levels or barreling into the fight, guns-blazing. In each loop you’ll discover new secrets, gather intel on your targets as well as the island of Blackreef, and expand your arsenal. Armed with a host of otherworldly abilities and savage weaponry, you’ll utilize every tool at your command to execute takedowns that are as striking as they are devastating. Customize your loadout wisely to survive this deadly game of hunter vs hunted.
SINGLE PLAYER GAMEPLAY INJECTED WITH DEADLY MULTIPLAYER
-------------------------------------------------------
Are you the hero or the villain? You’ll experience DEATHLOOP’s main story as Colt, hunting down targets across the island of Blackreef to break the loop and earn your freedom. All the while, you’ll be hunted by your rival Julianna, who can be controlled by another player. So if you’re feeling devious, you, too, can step into Julianna’s stylish sneakers and invade another player’s campaign to kill Colt. The multiplayer experience is completely optional, and players can choose to have Julianna controlled by AI within their campaign.
The island Of Blackreef – Paradise Or Prison
--------------------------------------------
Arkane is renowned for magnificently artistic worlds with multiple pathways and emergent gameplay. DEATHLOOP will present a stunning, retro-future, 60s-inspired environment, that feels like a character within itself. While Blackreef may be a stylish wonderland, for Colt it is his prison, a world ruled by decadence where death has no meaning, and delinquents party forever while keeping him captive.

Common complaints:
- Constant crashes and lost progress (weight 0.92): The game suffers from severe technical issues, including frequent crashes, freezes, and memory leaks, often leading to lost progress due to a flawed or non-existent save system. These problems persist even on high-end hardware and have remained unaddressed for years, making the game unstable and frustrating to play. Many players have reported that the game is literally unplayable due to these issues, and some suspect that the game has been abandoned by the developers.
- Poor and repetitive enemy AI (weight 0.91): Reviewers consistently criticize the game's AI for being simplistic, inconsistent, and exploitable, making both stealth and combat feel either too easy or unfairly difficult. The limited enemy variety and repetitive encounters further contribute to a monotonous gameplay experience. This point is mentioned frequently across many reviews.
- Inferior to previous Arkane games (weight 0.18): Many reviewers express disappointment, stating that the game fails to live up to the standards set by previous Arkane titles like Dishonored and Prey. They cite a lack of depth, innovation, and immersive qualities compared to these earlier works, leading to a sense that the game is a simplified or less inspired version of its predecessors. Some reviewers felt that the game was a soulless spinoff of Dishonored.
- Confusing and slow start (weight 0.15): The game's initial hours are often described as confusing, overwhelming, and slow-paced, with a steep learning curve and inadequate guidance. Players may struggle to understand the core mechanics and objectives, leading to frustration and a lack of engagement early on. Some reviewers also felt that the game had too much tutorial at the beginning.
- Laggy and unbalanced multiplayer (weight 0.14): The multiplayer component, particularly playing as Julianna, suffers from significant lag, connection issues, and imbalance, leading to a frustrating and often unplayable experience. Many reviewers report long matchmaking times, rubberbanding, and unfair advantages for either Colt or Julianna, making the PvP aspect disruptive and unenjoyable. Some reviewers also found the AI Julianna to be easily exploitable.
- Ineffective and unrewarding stealth (weight 0.05): The stealth gameplay is often criticized for being ineffective, inconsistent, and unrewarding, with limited options and predictable AI. Many reviewers found that a direct combat approach is often more viable than stealth, undermining the potential for strategic and nuanced gameplay. Some reviewers also felt that the stealth sections were frustrating.
- Poor UI and menu issues (weight 0.04): The game suffers from UI and menu issues, including bugs, confusing design, and excessive tutorials. These problems detract from the overall user experience and make it difficult to navigate the game's systems and objectives. Some reviewers also reported that the menu bug has been present since the game's release three years ago.

Gameplay feedback:
- Core: time-loop investigation, manipulation (weight 0.31): The core gameplay loop revolves around a time loop mechanic, where the player relives the same day, divided into four time periods across four locations. Actions in one time period affect subsequent ones, and the player retains knowledge and some items between loops. The goal is to eliminate eight targets within a single loop by gathering clues and manipulating events.
- Mix of action and stealth (weight 0.13): The game offers a blend of action and stealth gameplay, allowing players to approach situations in various ways. Players can choose to engage in direct combat or utilize stealth tactics, with the game providing tools and abilities to support both playstyles. This freedom encourages experimentation and adaptation to different challenges.
- Infusion system enables persistent upgrades (weight 0.09): The game features an infusion system that allows players to retain weapons, abilities, and upgrades between loops by spending Residuum. This system adds a layer of progression and customization, encouraging players to strategically choose which items to keep and discard. Losing non-infused gear can be frustrating.
- Similar to Dishonored, more action (weight 0.08): The game shares similarities with Arkane's Dishonored series, but with a greater emphasis on gunplay and less on stealth. The game encourages creativity and experimentation, allowing players to adapt to their environment and accept mistakes. There is no morality system.
- Supernatural abilities (Slabs) enhance gameplay (weight 0.08): Players can acquire supernatural abilities called Slabs, such as teleportation and linking enemies, which can be upgraded by killing Visionaries multiple times. These powers, combined with weapons and gadgets, allow for diverse combat and traversal strategies. The abilities are similar to those found in Arkane's Dishonored series.
- Clear objectives, environmental storytelling (weight 0.07): The game provides clear objectives and hints, making it accessible for most players, with the option to disable hints for a more challenging experience. The plot is conveyed through notes, environmental storytelling, and audio logs, requiring players to investigate the game world to understand the story and characters.
- Multiplayer invasion adds unpredictability (weight 0.06): The game features an optional multiplayer invasion mode where another player can control Julianna, the antagonist, and attempt to disrupt the player's progress. This creates dynamic and unpredictable encounters, adding a layer of challenge and tension to the single-player experience. The AI can also control Julianna if no player is available.
- Exploration reveals secrets, side-quests (weight 0.06): Exploration is rewarding, with valuable secrets, interesting side quests, and environmental storytelling scattered throughout the maps. The game encourages players to explore every nook and cranny, learn hidden pathways, and plan their routes to optimize their assassinations. Side quests provide useful items and lore.
- Eliminate Visionaries to break loop (weight 0.03): The primary objective is to eliminate seven or eight Visionaries within a single day to break the time loop. This requires players to manipulate their schedules and locations, often involving puzzle-solving and exploration. Abilities are acquired by killing Visionaries.
- Four maps, time-dependent variations (weight 0.03): The game takes place across four distinct maps, each with variations depending on the time of day. While the number of maps is limited, they are densely packed with secrets and mysteries to uncover. The maps are easy to navigate.
- Non-linear mission structure, fixed storyline (weight 0.02): The game offers a non-linear mission structure, allowing players to choose which Visionary mission to pursue. However, the main storyline is fixed, and the order of killing the Visionaries is unique. The final section requires planning to defeat the Visionaries.
- Well-executed formula, rewards creativity (weight 0.02): The game executes its formula perfectly, keeping track of everything so the player doesn't have to remember every detail. It rewards creativity and encourages experimentation with different tactics. The core idea of the game is good.

Performance notes:
- Excessive VRAM usage (weight 0.18): The game exhibits high VRAM usage, sometimes leading to crashes or performance degradation, even with ray tracing disabled. Some players report the game utilizes all available VRAM. This can be problematic even on systems that otherwise meet the game's requirements.
- High hardware requirements (weight 0.02): The game has relatively high hardware requirements, potentially causing issues for players with older systems, especially those with GTX 1050 Ti or lower GPUs. There are also concerns about potential damage to laptop GPUs.
- VSync and framerate issues (weight 0.01): Some players have found that disabling VSync and/or capping the frame rate can improve performance and reduce stuttering. This suggests potential issues with the game's VSync implementation and frame pacing.
- Void Engine performance issues (weight 0.01): The game uses the Void Engine, which is known for causing random frame lags and crashes, even on well-optimized PCs. This suggests the engine itself may be a source of performance issues.
- Minor sound issues (weight 0.01): Some players have reported occasional sound issues, such as audio sounding quiet or disjointed. The default music volume may also be too low for some players.
- Inconsistent loading times (weight 0.01): Players report inconsistent and problematic loading times. Even on decent systems, some loading sequences feel excessively long.

Recommendations:
- Recommend, especially on sale (weight 0.71): Many reviewers recommend the game, especially on sale, citing its unique qualities and fun gameplay. However, some suggest waiting for a sale due to perceived value not matching the full price, or because of technical issues. Some reviewers also suggest that the game is underrated.
- Requires patience, investment (weight 0.52): Some reviewers note that the game requires patience and investment to fully appreciate its mechanics and story. The game is most enjoyable in the early stages when new puzzles and loot are plentiful. Some reviewers also mention that the game never seems to find its footing.
- Story/ending mixed reception (weight 0.48): Some reviewers express disappointment with the story or ending, while others hope for a sequel or prequel to expand on the narrative. Some reviewers advise paying close attention to the story, dialogues, and notes. The ending is unsatisfying because it only confirms what was already known: there is no in-depth story.
- Good immersive sim (weight 0.48): Some reviewers recommend the game to those who enjoy immersive sims. The game is a solid faux-immersive sim. If you enjoy immersive sims, this game is a magnum opus of the genre.
- Significant technical issues reported (weight 0.18): A significant number of reviews mention technical issues, particularly crashing, freezing, and performance problems on PC. Many reviewers cannot recommend the game until these issues are resolved. Some reviewers have refunded the game due to these problems.
- Compared to Dishonored/Prey (weight 0.12): Many reviewers compare the game to other Arkane titles, especially Dishonored and Prey. Some feel it doesn't measure up, while others see it as a worthy addition or even an improvement. Some reviewers recommend playing Dishonored or Prey instead.
- Praised time loop mechanic (weight 0.08): Reviewers praise the time loop mechanic, world design, and gameplay. The game is recommended for those who enjoy time loop mechanics, immersive sims, and creative gameplay. Some reviewers also appreciate the game's blend of action, stealth, and puzzle-solving.
- Overrated, not worth full price (weight 0.04): Some reviewers feel the game is overrated or not worth the full price. The game's value is highly dependent on the price paid. The reviewer believes the low discount price indicates that the game will not receive further optimization.
- Play in single-player mode (weight 0.02): Some reviewers recommend playing the game in single-player mode to avoid potential online issues and fully enjoy the experience. The game has a lot of depth and love put into it, but the AI issue may be too much for some players to handle. The reviewer is unlikely to finish the game due to the frustrating invasion experiences.
- Lag issues as Julianna (weight 0.01): Some reviewers report lag issues while playing as Julianna in the online mode. The game offers a story for those who want to break loops as Colt and PvP action as Julianna. The reviewer suggests that players should prepare for hundreds of hours of matchmaking as Julianna if they want to unlock skins.

Other player notes:
- Unique retro-futuristic art style (weight 0.07): The game features a distinct retro-futuristic aesthetic, blending 1960s-70s pop culture with advanced technology. Reviewers highlight the detailed environments, stylish visuals, and soundtrack that contribute to the game's unique atmosphere. However, some felt the style was overused.
- Dishonored universe connection (weight 0.05): The game is set in the Dishonored universe, sharing lore and design elements with the series. Fans of Dishonored may appreciate the connections, but some reviewers felt the game differs significantly in gameplay and doesn't fully capture the magic of previous Arkane titles. Some reviewers expressed disappointment.
- Time loop on Blackreef island (weight 0.02): The game takes place on the island of Blackreef, trapped in a time loop. The player's goal is to eliminate eight Visionaries to break the loop, a premise reminiscent of the TV series "Lost". The setting and core mechanic are central to the game's narrative and gameplay.
- No further official support (weight 0.01): The game studio, Arkane, is closed, meaning the game will not receive official patches to fix issues. This is a major concern for players who encounter bugs or other technical problems. This may impact the long-term playability of the game.
- Poor onboarding and marketing (weight 0.01): The game doesn't clearly indicate that the first two missions are tutorials, so players may waste time on them. Also, the number of levels in the game is few. The game is made for a certain type of player, which isn't inherently bad, but the marketing could have been more specific.
