About the Game
==============
G'Day there! Get ready to start a new fair Dinkum life. Expand your town on an island inspired by the wild Australian outback. Gather resources through hunting, mining, fishing, and foraging. Connect with friends to experience the unique charm of Dinkum.
Cultivate crops for your town across the whole island. Choosing the best spot is essential as each crop has its own ideal season and way of growing.
Build fences and raise a variety of animals. They might seem exotic at first, but you'll soon discover how adorable they are!
Invite your friends to visit your town where they can help you construct buildings, shop at your stores, or go fishing together. You can also do much more together, like racing emus or fighting crocodiles.
Go from starting out sleeping in a bag under the stars, to a sprawling town with farms, businesses, and attractions. Eventually, you'll draw in visitors, who might decide to stay and make it their home too.
Make your character and home uniquely yours! Once your home is just the way you like it, invite your friends over to show off your interior designer creds.
Hunt animals for food and defend yourself from deadly predators who are just as hungry as you. Those kangaroos might seem friendly but they pack a punch! Attack creatures head on or capture them with traps, it's up to you how to survive.
The island is chockablock with insects, fish, and minerals. So grab your flip-flops and roam around to collect them all. Display your finds in your personal museum collection, or sell them for a tidy profit.
Keep your neighbors happy by customizing your town with fences, flower beds, street lamps, beehives, windmills, hedges, fountains, and more. The happier your townsfolk are the more likely they are to settle down and offer unique items.

Common complaints:
- Tedious grind, slow progression (weight 0.55): The game suffers from a tedious grind due to a poorly implemented stamina system, slow progression, and repetitive tasks like resource gathering and crafting. Players feel artificially slowed down, with basic actions limited by stamina and a lack of quality-of-life features like batch crafting or auto-saving. This makes the early game a slog and discourages long play sessions.
- Insufficient guidance, unclear mechanics (weight 0.27): The game lacks sufficient guidance and tutorials, leaving players confused about core mechanics and progression paths. Essential information is missing or unclear, forcing players to rely on external resources like wikis and YouTube for basic understanding. This lack of direction makes the game difficult for new players to pick up and enjoy.
- Clunky building, stiff interactions (weight 0.25): The game's building and terraforming mechanics are clunky and frustrating, lacking precision and essential features like item rotation. Interacting with the environment feels stiff and unresponsive, making tasks like placing items and manipulating terrain tedious. This limits player creativity and makes town design a chore.
- Poor localization, language issues (weight 0.15): The game suffers from localization issues, including missing language options, poor translations, and text display problems. This creates a barrier for non-English speakers and detracts from the overall experience. Some players have also reported the game defaulting to Chinese after applying language patches.
- Uninspired NPC interactions (weight 0.09): NPC interactions are shallow and unengaging due to bland characters, repetitive dialogue, and limited backstory. NPCs lack personality and depth, making the relationship system uninteresting. Some reviewers also noted issues with NPC AI and excessive dialogue.
- Poorly designed, frustrating mines (weight 0.06): The mines are poorly designed, with excessive darkness, strong monsters, and navigation difficulties. The cost of entry and essential items like torches is too high, especially early in the game. The radiation mechanic further restricts exploration, making the mining experience frustrating and unenjoyable.
- Difficult, unenjoyable fishing mechanic (weight 0.05): The fishing mechanic is difficult and unenjoyable due to strict timing requirements, unclear instructions, and a lack of unique features. Some reviewers found it impossible to successfully fish, while others resorted to button spamming. The licensing requirements also feel overly realistic and detract from the experience.
- Boring early game, uninspired audio (weight 0.04): The game suffers from a boring early game, uninspired music, and excessive, unskippable dialogue. The color palette is visually unpleasant, and the overall pace is too slow, making it difficult to stay motivated. These issues contribute to a feeling of boredom and lack of engagement.
- Aggressive creatures, stressful encounters (weight 0.03): The presence of aggressive creatures like crocodiles and cassowaries can make the game stressful and frustrating, especially in the early game. Unexpected encounters with these creatures can disrupt gameplay and lead to panic. Some reviewers also noted issues with creature models and attack behavior.
- Minor bugs and glitches (weight 0.02): The game has some minor bugs and glitches. This point is not very specific.

Gameplay feedback:
- Town-building, farming, exploration blend (weight 0.32): The game combines town-building, farming, exploration, and life simulation elements in an Australian Outback setting. Players gather resources, craft items, befriend NPCs, and develop their town, drawing comparisons to Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. The game features diverse biomes, wildlife, and activities like mining, fishing, and hunting.
- License system gates progression (weight 0.1): The game uses a license system where players earn points through milestones and daily tasks to unlock activities, tools, and vehicles. This system acts as a progression limiter, requiring players to prioritize and slowing down the overall pace. While some find it adds structure, others feel it introduces an artificial grind.
- Resource gathering and crafting focus (weight 0.06): The game features crafting and resource management mechanics, requiring players to gather and process materials. The crafting system has a medium level of complexity, falling between Animal Crossing and Minecraft. Building a town can be a prolonged process, requiring significant time and effort.
- Varied activities: fishing, hunting, capture (weight 0.05): The game offers a variety of activities, including fishing, hunting, and animal capture. The fishing mechanic is unique and more realistic compared to other games. Players can earn money through various activities like catching and shipping animals, fishing, mining, and treasure hunting.
- Stamina and skill-based progression (weight 0.04): The game features a stamina system that affects physical activities, encouraging players to consume food for buffs and boosts. The character has a level system where skills improve based on daily activities, rather than allocating points in skill trees. Progression relies on the player's own exploration to set goals.
- Simple combat with low penalty (weight 0.04): The game includes combat elements with hostile creatures, but the combat system is simple. The game features a death-without-item-loss mechanic, encouraging exploration. The combat system is not very difficult and can be avoided in the early game.
- Accelerated, controllable time system (weight 0.03): The game features an accelerated time system, with each in-game day lasting around 30 minutes. The game saves when the player sleeps, and time freezes if the player doesn't sleep when it's dark. This allows players to manage their time and progress through the game at their own pace.
- Procedural mines and resource areas (weight 0.02): The mine and the airport unlock procedurally generated areas that offer resources and rare items like weapons. Players can construct mines and use elevators to explore underground labyrinths and discover treasure chests. The home island and mines are randomly generated.

Performance notes:
- Generally smooth, stable performance (weight 0.11): Many players report smooth performance and rare bugs, even on older systems or the Steam Deck/ROG Ally. Multiplayer is generally stable. However, some players experience lag, FPS drops, or crashes depending on their hardware and settings.
- Good optimization enables content (weight 0.01): The game's optimization and memory compression result in a rich amount of content. The simple, stylized graphics should be accessible even on weaker PCs.
- Lava Mine map stutters (weight 0.01): The Lava Mine map specifically causes stuttering issues for some players, while other maps run fine. This suggests a potential optimization issue with that specific environment.
- Detailed, well-made environments (weight 0.01): Buildings and ecological models are well-made, with minimal clipping issues, and attention to detail from small flower pots to large palaces.
- Camera angles cause motion sickness (weight 0.01): Some players report that the camera angles could induce motion sickness.
- Save progress frequently (weight 0): The game requires players to save progress to avoid losing progress. This is a general reminder and not specific feedback.
